Heron Island is a coral cay located right on the Great Barrier Reef. Here you can swim straight off the beach into a World Heritage Listed area where no building reaches above the tree line. There are no day trippers as the island is exclusively for guests, boasting a unique experience few other resorts in the world can offer.
There is a range of rooms and suites at Heron Island. Make your choice from the Turtle Rooms in their garden setting, and suites on the beach or overlooking the reef. All accommodation features a balcony or patio, ceiling fan, fridge, tea and coffee-making facilities and beach towels. Televisions and telephones are not present in any rooms, to allow guests to escape the outside world.
As well as trying the amazing snorkelling and diving on the reefs surrounding Heron Island, guests can take part in guided reef walks, island ecology walks and birdlife walks. Have a go at stargazing and enjoy a nightly movie and marine documentary, or burn some energy with a game of tennis or table tennis. There are also trivia nights as well as movies under the stars, subject to weather.
Breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style at Heron Island's Shearwater restaurant, while dinner features a three-course table d'hote, Saturday seafood buffet and a mid-week Aussie barbecue. Picnic hampers are available on request. The Bar and Lounge features panoramic reef views, with a cocktail bar, entertainment lounge, dance floor and a mezzanine-level library area.
