Overview
Namibia is one of Africa's treasure troves and on this wonderful nine day tour you will get to see most of the highlights of this stunning country. Staying at lodges, hotels and safari camps you will visit some of the highest sand dunes on Earth, see the sun rise over awesome landscapes, relax beside shallow lagoons, see all the diverse wildlife of the desert as well as amazing geological marvels and also have the chance of taking part in a whole range of adventure activities. This tour makes an exciting add on to any holiday in Africa.
Day 1
Namib Desert
Your tour begins in Windhoek, in the north of the country. From here you travel to your first lodge in the Namib Desert. This region is the gateway to Sesriem Canyon and Sossusvlei, where some of the highest sand dunes on Earth stand towering over the white desert plains. The afternoon can be spent relaxing at the pool, or taking part in optional activities offered at your lodge.
tour image
Day 2
Namib Desert
Start early this morning as the first rays of sunrise paint the mountains of sand into a variety of apricot, red and orange, contrasted against a crisp blue skyline. Have your cameras ready to capture this awesome landscape. At Sossusvlei, where the mostly dry Tsauchab River ends abruptly among majestic dunes, you can walk up one of the dunes to admire the desert landscape. Later visit the Sesriem Canyon, a life sustaining natural phenomenon in the heart of the Namib Desert.
tour image
Day 3
Swakopmund
After breakfast you travel through the desolate, rolling hills of the Kuiseb Moon Valley towards the Atlantic Ocean. In Walvis Bay visit the shallow lagoon, one of the most important wetland areas on the African continent and a world heritage site. More than 80 per cent of the African flamingoes feed in this lagoon and present a breathtaking picture when they appear in groups of several hundred thousand. Having arrived in the coastal town of Swakopmund, you have the rest of the day at leisure.
tour image
Day 4
Swakopmund
Swakopmund is the perfect location for walking tours, shopping, relaxing at a quaint coffee shop or along the sandy beaches. This is Namibia's holiday playground, and you also have a wide variety of adventurous activities on offer, ranging from dolphin cruises, desert tours and scenic flights to quad biking, paragliding, parachuting and kite surfing - to mention only a few.
tour image
Day 5
Damaraland
Today you head further north, travelling along vast lichen fields to Cape Cross, a fur seal reserve where at times more than 80,000 animals frolic in the Atlantic waves. You drive on via the Brandberg, Namibia's highest mountain, into the Damaraland, one of the least populated and geologically diverse areas in Africa. This harsh, rocky environment is home to the rare Desert Elephant, the Black Rhino and free-roaming antelope species.
tour image
Day 6
Etosha
Start the morning with a visit to Twyfelfontein, a heritage site where bushman communities engraved and painted more than 2,500 pictures some 6,000 years ago! Close by you explore the Burnt Mountain, Organ Pipes and the Petrified Forest - all geological phenomena depicting the creation and evolution of some of the oldest land masses on the planet. Here you also see the Welwitschia mirabilis plant - the world's oldest living desert plant. After a visit to a traditional Damara village you travel to your lodge situated close to the world-renowned Etosha National Park, and spend the rest of the day at leisure.
tour image
Day 7
Etosha
The day is devoted purely to watching the abundant wildlife found in the Etosha National Park, which surrounds a parched salt desert known as the Etosha Pan. The park is home to four of the Big Five - Elephant, Lion, Leopard and Rhino - and its waterholes support a rich diversity of birds and mammals, including rare species such as black-faced Impala, roan, cheetah, and Namibia's smallest antelope, the Damara Dik-Dik.
tour image
Day 8
Etosha
Today you are again taken on a game drive in the Etosha National Park. You may encounter animal species you have not seen the previous day and can look forward to any new surprises at the different waterholes visited. In the afternoon you travel to another lodge, where you enjoy the rest of the day and night at leisure discussing with fellow guests what you have seen and done under a star spangled African night sky
tour image
Day 9
Windhoek
Today your great Namibia highlights tour comes to an end. After breakfast you are picked up at the lodge and driven southwards to Windhoek arriving at around 1700 where your tour will end.
