The family-owned Settlers’ Drift is an intimate boutique-style lodge that combines the traditional experience of staying in tented accommodation with 5-star luxury, for a unique jungle holiday. It offers a tranquil location tucked away in a remote part of the Kariega Wildderness, on South Africa’s famous Garden Route from Cape Town to the Sunshine Coast, an 80-minute drive from Port Elizabeth and 10 minutes from the coastal village of Kenton-on-Sea. To access the lodge, it’s a 1.5-hour-long drive from either Durban or Port Elizabeth airport, then a short boat transfer down river.
The lodge consists of nine spacious tented suites, with a contemporary interior that boasts lots of natural materials, and light muted shades for a relaxing atmosphere. Each suite consists of a bedroom with one king or two double beds, a separate living area with sofa, a full bathroom, indoor and outdoor shower and secluded viewing deck for uninterrupted views across the Kariega landscape and to the nearby Bushman’s River.
Guests at the lodge get to enjoy two game drives a day where it’s likely you’ll get to see all the big five. River cruises as well as walking safaris can also be arranged. Back at base, relax with a drink on one of the spacious decks, choose a book to read from the lodge’s library, warm up in front of the lounge fire, or take some time out in the spa or cool off in the outdoor pool.
A stay at the Kariega Settlers Drift is fully inclusive; with guests enjoying all meals and drinks at the lodge’s open-air restaurant. There’s also a bar and a full wine cellar.
