If you’re looking for an ultra-chic, design-focused hotel to call home for your stay in Cape Town, the four-star Victoria & Alfred Hotel is a good choice. It’s set in a converted warehouse dating back to 1904 located in the city’s historic waterfront area. It offers luxurious amenities and boasts views over the Alfred Basin and the city centre to Table Mountain. To get here, it’s a 30-minute drive from the airport.
Room Description
Each of the hotel’s 94 spacious, air-conditioned and en-suite rooms are elegant yet contemporary in style, blending a neutral colour palate with rich pops of colour in the furnishings, carpets and drapes. Lighting is soft for a cosy atmosphere and there are plenty of amenities for a luxurious stay, such as king beds, well-appointed bathrooms with shower and bath, coffee and tea-making facilities, flat-screen TV, seating area, Wi-Fi and great views. Loft rooms on the top floor are a bit grander.
Activities
The hotel’s location in the heart of the V&A Waterfront means you’re close to plenty of activities, such as some of the best shopping in Cape Town. You’re also well placed for getting the ferry over to Robben Island to explore the prison Nelson Mandela was held captive in. When you’ve done all this, you’re just a short walk from the centre of Cape Town and a short drive away from trailheads that lead up Table Mountain.
Dining
There are several upmarket options to choose from when it comes to dining. Dash – apparently named after the Queen’s favourite pet ¬– is an elegant yet relaxed restaurant serving modern dishes with a South African flavour with a panoramic view of Table Mountain and the Waterfront.
