Overview
If you want to take one of the world's ultimate luxurious train journeys then this seven day trip from Cape Town to the majestic Victoria Falls takes some beating. After making time to explore South Africa's beautiful coastal city you board your train and begin a memorable journey north stopping to tour Kimberley and Pretoria before travelling through Botswana and Zimbabwe and arriving at the Falls. Meals are served in the train's elegant dining car and you will see memorable sights all along the route.
Day 1
Depart Cape Town
You've explored Cape Town, taken a trip to the top of Table Mountain, shopped at the plush Victoria and Alfred waterfront, and taken a trip out to the Cape of Good Hope . . . now it's time to board your luxurious Rovos Rail train which is waiting at Platform 23 at the city's main station. Settle in and relax as you travel inland through the winelands. Lunch is served in the dining car before you stop and visit the historical village of Matjiesfontein. Then return to the train and look forward to tonight's first dinner on board.

Day 2
Kimberley
Breakfast and lunch are served on board as the train heads north and in the early afternoon you arrive in the famous diamond town of Kimberley. Here you leave the train and are taken on a bus tour of the area stopping at the fascinating Diamond Mine Museum and the extraordinary Big Hole. Return to the train in the early evening and another sumptuous dinner is served in the elegant dining car as you travel on towards your next destination, the town of Pretoria.

Day 3
Pretoria
Lots to see from the windows of your carriage after breakfast as the train travels via Krugersdorp and the huge city of Johannesburg and then through the goldfields of the Witwatersrand towards Pretoria, where you arrive around noon at the Rovos Rail Station in Capital Park. You will be picked up here and driven to your hotel in the city for a one night stay. There are lots of organised tours of the area that can be arranged during your stop or you can explore on your own.

Day 4
Depart Pretoria
You are collected from your hotel this morning and driven back across the city to your waiting train which leaves Pretoria Station at around 9.30 and travels through the goldfields of Gauteng. Lunch is served as you cross the Tropic of Capricorn and enter the low latitudes en route through Warmbaths and Nylstroom. Afternoon tea and dinner will be served as you continue to Messina and then Beitbridge for the border formatlities before you cross into Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe
Enjoy breakfast as your train continues its journey towards Bulawayo, passing through Rutenga and Somabhula. Tonight your train will stop at Mpopoma for your overnight stay.

Day 6
Zimbabwe
Breakfast will be served from 0700 as you depart Mpopoma and head towards the wilderness of Hwange National Park. As you enjoy lunch take in the sights of Hwange, perhaps even spotting animals from the train as you travel along one of the longest stretches of straight railway line in Africa at 114 kilometres. At 3 you will arrive at the Kennedy Siding where you'll switch into a 4WD for your Game Drive in Hwange National Park and a chance to spot elephants and lions in this iconic national park. Dinner will be served in the dining cars as the train moves on to Thompsons Junction for your overnight stop.

Day 7
Arrive Victoria Falls
The Rovos Rail train leaves Thompson's Junction early this morning so you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast on the way to Victoria Falls. On arrival you say farewell to new found friends then have to decide how long to stay and discover all that this beautiful area has to offer. The Victoria Falls is the world's largest curtain of falling water and one of Africa's great natural wonders. You can get close to the picturesque gorge on a number of hiking trails or Zambezi River boat trips and a stay or visit to the colonial style Victoria Falls hotel is a must.
