On arrival at Hanoi you will be met by one of our tour representatives and taken to your hotel in the heart of the city. Relax after the journey then the rest of the day and evening is free for you to go out and explore on your own seeing some of the sights. Later there will be a tour briefing and welcome drinks at your hotel when you will discover all the exciting things that you will be doing over the coming days. Spend the day discovering Hanoi’s must-visit sites including the infamous Hoa Lo Prison, nicknamed the Hanoi Hilton, and Dong Xuan Market. Walk through the crowded streets of the city’s Old Quarter, pay a visit to the Temple of Literature and the historical St Joseph’s Cathedral. Then enjoy a welcome afternoon tea before you continue your exploration of the city, finishing up at the popular Hoan Kiem Lake, which is situated in the heart of Hanoi City. Overnight Hanoi.
Hanoi to Halong Bay
Today you leave Hanoi and drive past scenes of traditional rural life as you journey from the city to Halong City, the gateway to beautiful Halong Bay. On arrival, board a junk boat and begin cruising among some of the 3,000 limestone karst islands. Enjoy a delicious lunch as you cruise through the pristine, turquoise waters of this stunning natural wonder, which is one of the country's top tourist attractions. Spend tonight on your cruise boat in the bay.
Halong Bay to Hoi An
This morning watch the sun rise over Halong Bay’s stunning scenery. After breakfast, continue your exploration and discover what makes this area so unique. On the cruise back to Halong City, enjoy a tasty lunch before arriving at the dock and being driven to the airport for your flight to Danang. On arrival, transfer to your hotel in the charming town of Hoi An. Tonight is free for you to go out and explore on your own. Overnight at the Hoi An Silk Marina Resort, or similar.
Explore the riverside town of Hoi An on a walking tour. Visit the many sites and discover the mix of Chinese, Japanese and French influenced architecture. Visit a traditional ancient house, a Chinese Assembly Hall and the Japanese Covered Bridge. The afternoon is free for you to do as much or as little as you like. Choose to explore the old town, have a local tailor custom-make a new wardrobe or cycle to An Bang Beach.
Hoi An to Saigon
After breakfast enjoy free time in Hoi An seeing more of the sights before being picked up from your hotel and driven to the airport for your flight to Saigon in the south of the country. On arrival you are again met by a tour representative and driven to your next hotel. After check in, the rest of the afternoon and evening is free for you to go out and explore on your own and discover what life is like in this amazing city. Overnight at the Hotel Equatorial, or similar.
From Saigon, drive a short distance out of the city to visit the remarkable Cu Chi Tunnels to see how the communists fought the Americans so successfully during the Vietnam war. You can go down into some of the tunnels and discover the network of underground connections and how they were used by the Vietcong. In the afternoon return to Saigon and join a guided walking tour and discover the rich history of this spirited city as you visit lots of its main attractions.
Saigon to Mekong Delta
This morning travel south to the Mekong Delta. Known as the 'rice bowl' of Vietnam, it is the most fertile region in the country. Stop en route at an unusual Cao Dai pagoda, a uniquely Vietnamese sect that combines a mix of all the world’s great religions. Then board a boat and cruise along tributaries of the mighty Mekong River and narrow canals, gaining a real insight into the lives of the local people who live on the shoreline. Overnight on board a Mekong Eyes cruise boat.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast this morning before getting on the river and experiencing the unique rowing techniques used to propel a sampan boat. During an action packed day on the mighty Mekong you also visit a coconut candy enterprise and later hop on a bike and cycle through the lane ways of a local village. Return to your floating 'home' in the evening for sunset drinks on the deck before enjoying dinner under the stars.
Another full day on the river. Rise early to see a spectacular dawn over the Mekong then after breakfast onboard you are taken to visit Tan Thuan Dong islet where you can either walk or cycle through this beautiful area. Enjoy lunch back on board and then you have free time to simply relax as you continue to enjoy panoramic views along this great river system. Tonight there's another memorable dinner on board when you can sample some local dishes.
Mekong Delta to Phnom Penh
Today you cross the border from Vietnam into Cambodia and travel by speedboat to the capital Phnom Penh. The first visit here is to the infamous Tuol Sleng Musuem, the former school building where so many people were tortured and died during the brutal Pol Pot regime. You are also taken to the Killing Fields memorial at Choeng Ek. At the end of the day, enjoy a drink with your group as you watch the sun set over the Mekong River. Phnom Penh to Siem Reap
This morning you go on a cyclo ride through the backstreets of Phnom Penh. Discover Wat Phnom, the birthplace of the capital, the Royal Palace and its famous landmark, the stunning Silver Pagoda, and the National Museum with its unique collection of Khmer art. Then you are taken to the airport for your short flight to the resort town of Siem Reap, gateway to the amazing temple complexes of Angkor. Overnight at the Steung Siem Reap Hotel, or similar.
Explore the grounds of “The Great City” Angkor Thom. Stop at Bayon temple to see the impressive stone carvings and visit the Terrace of Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. Return to town for lunch before journeying to Ta Prohm temple to see the enormous vines and roots snaking their way across the ruins. Then the highlight of the trip when you explore the magnificent Angkor Wat and, in the evening, experience authentic Khmer song and dance as you join your group for a farewell dinner.
Depart Siem Reap
Today your wonderful tour around North and South Vietnam and Cambodia comes to an end. Possibly time for more sightseeing around the Angkor temple complexes before you say farewell to your fellow travellers and are picked up from your hotel and driven to the airport to catch an onward flight and continue your south east Asia adventures or begin your journey home.
