Being a Banyan Tree hotel, it almost goes without saying that the Banyan Tree Lang Co is situated in an idyllic location – it’s the quintessential tropical island beach retreat set on an island-like stretch of palm-shaded golden powdery sand on the central coast of Vietnam, surrounded by dramatic scenery of the Truong Son mountain range, the Lap An lagoon, and views of the East Sea.
With its Eastern therapies, and holistic focus, Banyan Tree was the pioneer of modern-day spa concept. In fact, you could say that Banyan Tree started the spa. In 1994 the Banyan Tree Phuket was the first tropical garden spa in Asia, and its time-honoured principles and practices have of course been passed down to all the Banyan Tree hotels. In short, these people know what they’re doing. Choose from a menu of massage treatments based on ancient techniques, combining aromatic oils, healing herbs and spices, and organic botanicals. Relax, you’re in safe hands.
Tee off against a dramatic backdrop of jagged mountains and blue sea at the impressive Laguna Lang Co Golf Club at the Banyan Tree Lang Co Resort. An 18-hole, par-71 championship golf course designed by Sir Nick Faldo, it takes you through streams, rice paddies and beautiful rock formations for a round of golf like you’ve never experienced before.
Named for the tree that offered shade and rest for weary travellers in times of old, the Banyan Tree group’s philosophy is to provide the ultimate in luxury, comfort, seclusion and physical and mental wellbeing, all within an eco-sensitive environment. Or to put it simply, a sanctuary for the senses. The main buildings and each of the 49 villas are built in the traditional style of the houses of Hue, with clay tiled pitched roofs and open courtyards, either facing the beach or the lagoon, and surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. Likewise, all the villas, whether Beach Pool or Lagoon Pool, have their own private pools and sun decks, a mini bar, an intriguing bath menu, bath robes, hairdryer, and all electronic mod cons, such as LCD TV, audio system and wireless internet – but let’s face it, you won’t be needing that
The Banyan Tree Lang Co is geared to relaxation, with a capital R. Which means that it would be perfectly acceptable, advisable even, to lie on your private sun deck and gaze at the cloudless blue sky by day, with the occasional cooling dip in your private pool, and repeat the process with the stars by night. But if you feel the urge to venture a bit further then Lang Co has a range of strictly leisurely activities. You can practise your swing at the 18-hole golf course, designed by none other than Sir Nick Faldo, work out or perform sun salutations at The Gymnasium and Yoga Pavilion, and for water babies, the Laguna Sea Sports Centre and Marine Lab offers everything from snorkelling to catamaran sailing in the beautiful blue East Sea waters.
The Lang Co has four restaurants. Climb up a tree-lined pathway to the signature Saffron where you can enjoy traditional Thai food with a modern twist, and stunning views over the sea. With a casual seafront setting the Azura offers seafood, pizza and Vietnamese appetisers, while the funky cocktail bar styling of the Thu Quan is the setting for an all-day snack menu, as well as a great range of tea, and cocktails. At the Water Court open-style restaurant with its show kitchen, Vietnamese and international cuisine take centre stage. Finally, for a ‘quiet night in’ you can order room service with a twist – the Lang Co Destination Dining experience: dinner chosen from the in-villa menu, and served at your private villa, or on the beach.
