If you’re in need of healing, of the body, mind or soul, here’s a good to start. This lush hotel has a great location, on the west coast of the beautiful island of Sri Lanka, a world away from hectic urban life, yet it is just 8km from Bandaranaike International Airport and 38km from the popular fishing resort of Negombo, famed for its wild cinnamon and colonial architecture, including the Dutch Fort.
Your room is your spa! Here you can be individually pampered and treated by the two resident Ayurvedic doctors and nine therapists – or you can visit the main spa area, with its wet area, plunge pool and steam room. Treatments on offer include detoxification weight-reduction programmes as well as stress relief.
Rooms here, all designed by architect Anura Ratnavibhushana, combine rusticity and luxury in the form of 12 spacious pavilions, each with its own secluded garden and open-air bathtub as well as – the epitome of luxury – its own private treatment room where you can receive Ayurvedic treatments without ever stepping foot outside. All rooms – divided into Queen and King Pavilions – are ethnic in design and earthy in colour and come with air conditioning, cable TV, tea- and coffee-making facilities and mini-fridges.
You may never want to leave your pavilion, but if you do, why not coax yourself into trying a spot of music therapy, yoga or swimming? You can even take lessons in herbal and Ayurvedic medicine. More active guests are welcome to make use of the facilities at other Jetwing properties in nearby Negombo.
The emphasis is on tasty, nutritional herbal cuisine, and specially created menus can be designed for each guest in consultation with an Ayurvedic doctor. One option on offer is Signature Dining, allowing you to choose where and when to dine, whether it’s in your own pavilion or in the Ayurveda Nivasa. Or you can try out the healthy, delicious a la carte menu packed with Sri Lankan and western classics at the Herb and Spice Restaurant.
