Arrival in Frankfurt
Arrive at Frankfurt airport and transfer to your hotel in the city. The rest of this first day is free to spend at your leisure travelling around and seeing some of the sights. Frankfurt is the financial and commercial heart of Germany, a city full of fascinating contrasts between modern development and historic landmarks. At 7 pm you meet your guide at the hotel for a welcome dinner and a chat about the tour itinerary. Overnight at Hotel Movenpick Frankfurt City.
Rüdesheim and Rhine cruise
After breakfast this morning leave Frankfurt and travel to Rüdesheim where you have a short tour of the city‘s historic centre. Then board a Black Forest and Romantic Germany ship and sail along the most picturesque and famous stretch of the Rhine - the stunning Lorelei valley. During this cruise you can enjoy a wine tasting. After this memorable trip you leave the ship at St. Goar and begin the return journey to Frankfurt for another night's stay.
Heidelberg, Baden-Baden and Freiburg
In the morning travel to Heidelberg to visit the famous castle, followed by a tour of the historic city centre. Idyllically located on the shores of the Neckar River, Heidelberg is Germany’s oldest university town and one of the most popular destinations in the country. Then travel on to Baden- Baden, the former summer residence of the European nobility and known worldwide for its thermal baths. Later continue the tour to lovely Freiburg, famous for its beautiful church tower. Overnight at the Central Hotel Freiburg.
Colmar and Strasburg
The Rhine River forms the natural border between Germany and France. After crossing the river today you arrive in Colmar. This city is known for its outstanding wines and architectural heritage that reflect the long history of this region and the German and French influences. Enjoy a typical Alsatian lunch then continue to Strasbourg, the capital of the Alsace, for a sightseeing tour of the city. Being the base of several European institutions, Strasbourg is also a symbolic capital of Europe. Then return to Freiburg.
Lindau - Füssen
After breakfast drive to the Black Forest and enjoy a short presentation on cuckoo clock production. Continue to a small traditional farm where you have a cheese tasting and see the real Black Forest. After that travel to the small island of Lindau in Lake Constance, which offers spectacular views of the Alps. Then take the Alpine road from Lindau to Oberstaufen and Immenstadt to your final destination, Füssen, the southernmost point on your tour. Overnight at Hotel Hirsch.
Neuschwanstein and Oberammergau
Start the day with a visit to the famous fairy tale Neuschwanstein Castle, built by Ludwig II, the notorious “Mad King“. At midday, travel to Oberammergau, famous for its Passion Play and lovely crafts. Along the way, visit the Wieskirche Church and stop at the Ettal Benedictine Abbey before continuing the tour to visit Linderhof Castle. This is one of the three castles built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria and the only one where the king actually lived for a significant amount of time. Later return to Fussen.
In the morning you leave Fussen and travel to Munich, the capital of Bavaria. Here you visit the city’s main attractions, concluding the tour at the Marienplatz square with its famous clock tower. Munich, the capital of the state of Bavaria, is well known for its Oktoberfest, which is annually celebrated in September. The afternoon is free to explore at your leisure and in the evening you are treated to a traditional Bavarian diner. Overnight at the Holiday Inn Munich City Centre.
Today your wonderful Black Forest and Romantic Germany tour comes to an end. Possibly time for some more sightseeing or last minute shopping in Munich before heading to the airport to catch an onward flight or begin your journey back home.
