Ten minutes drive from the centre of Khao Lak town and an hour from Phuket International Airport (private transfers by car available) sits The Sarojin resort. Surrounded by 10 acres of tropical gardens and a salt-water estuary with access to a secluded, sheltered 11km-long white sand beach on the Andaman Sea, the resort is close to five national parks including the magnificent primary rainforests of Khao Lak and Khao Sok as well as one of Thailand’s largest natural mangrove ecosystems. The historic town of Takuapa, is also only 20km away and is home to period teak houses and the Governor's residence.
If the location of the Pathways Spa, set in the garden under mangroves with the sounds of the ocean ever present, doesn’t soothe your senses, one of its relaxing treatments will. Featuring two double and two single pavilions, with outdoor showers and couples' baths, a facial treatment room, a post-treatment relaxation lounge area and a stilted yoga and tai chi deck, the spa has so many treatments to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Give into temptation and go for the Spa Lovers Package – five treatments from a choice of several, or calm tanned skin with a sun soother facial, body treatment or deep-tissue sports massage.
The Sarojin’s 56 residences are divided into four options – 14 Sarojin suites, 14 Pool residences and two-bedroom Pool Residences and 28 Garden residences (one of which is modified for wheelchair use and connects to a pool residence) each accessed by crossing a stream and through a garden terrace. Try a 150 sq m suite for the ultimate in space and luxury with garden views, air-conditioned lounge area, terrace and private relaxation pool. Or choose a Pool residence with a plunge pool, terrace and Thai lounge sala or its two-bedroom option for 215 sq m of living space. Garden residences also have a ground-floor terrace and Thai lounge sala along with 95 sq m of space.
Beyond the beach at the resort that’s sheltered by a coral headland, so you can swim and enjoy watersports all year round, there’s a huge amount of natural beauty to take in from the Similan and Surin Islands Marine National Parks, among the world's top dive sites to Phang Nga Bay, renowned for its hidden caves, lagoons and Tapu Island, which appeared in The Man With The Golden Gun. There are also golf courses nearby and plenty of activities that can be organised by the resort, including elephant trekking, sampling local culture, white-water rafting, canoeing and boating. Back at the resort, there’s a 25 sq m swimming pool with infinity edge, Jacuzzi lounge area, fitness centre, mountain bikes, library and Wi-Fi with tennis courts nearby.
Sample delicious cuisine at both of the resort’s restaurants. Ficus, under the roots and canopy of an ancient tree, serves Mediterranean cuisine with herbs from The Sarojin’s garden while The Edge is the place to go for memorable Thai recipes and seafood fresh from the Andaman alongside beach and sea views. Dine under the open-air pavilion or the terraces under the surrounding trees. Be sure to sample drinks from The Cellar open-air bar and award-winning wine cellar. There’s also private dining on offer in the setting of your choice – on the beach, next to a waterfall or on a secluded isle.
