With this special tour in March you can explore so many of the amazing Mayan ruins in Mexico as well as experiencing the country's Spring Equinox celebration. Beginning and ending in the sunshine resort of Cancun, where you can extend your holiday before or after the tour, you travel around an ancient landscape visiting such wonders as Chichen Itza and the Merida archaeological site. This exciting adventure takes in visits to so many places of interest.
Day 1
Arrive Cancun
On arrival at Cancun International Airport you are met by one of our tour representatives and taken to your hotel - the Beachscape Kin Ha Villas and Suites. Relax after the journey then the rest of the day and evening is free for you to go out and explore. Cancun is situated on the Yucatán Peninsula bordering the Caribbean Sea and is famous for its beaches, numerous resorts and nightlife. It’s composed of two distinct areas with a long beachfront strip of hotels, clubs, shops and restaurants.

Day 2
Cancun to Chicanna
Leave Cancun today and travel towards Chicanná, stopping on the way at the Bacalar Lagoon, also known as the “Lagoon of the Seven Colours.” After lunch continue to Chicanná, located in the amazing area of the Bec River, which received its name from the particular Mayan architecture style and where you can see recently discovered archaeological sites surrounded by an amazing Mayan jungle. Visit the site known as “House of the Serpent’s Mouth”, then check into the Eco Village at Chicanna.

Day 3
Chicanna to Pelenque
After a one-hour trip on the main highway, you arrive at the drift that crosses the reserve of the country’s largest biosphere: Calakmul, which is the only real high jungle of the Yucatán peninsula. It hosts five species of American wildcats and more than 230 bird species. After driving on a narrow road, you arrive at the Calakmul archaeological site near the Guatemala border. Hundreds of Mayan monoliths surround this region. Later drive to Palenque and check into the Villa Mercedes for an overnight stay.

Day 4
Palenque to Campeche
Today you visit the Palenque archaeological site. The area displays beautiful Mayan work made in stone and stucco and is said to be one of Mexico’s most beautiful places due to its ruins enclosed in the Chiapanecan jungle. Its most important site is the Temple of the Inscriptions, where explorers discovered Pakal’s tomb, with his famous jade green mask. Then carry on to Campeche for lunch and a visit to the ancient town before checking in to your next hotel.

Day 5
Campeche to Merida
A shorter drive to Mérida today with a visit to the Uxmal archaeological site on route. Uxmal means “built in three stages” and it is a typical example of the classic and post-classic Mayan period. After lunch in the restaurant Hacienda Ochil continue to Mérida, also known as the White City, which has Colonial houses as well as houses that date back to the beginning of the century in Arabic, French and Italian styles. After a tour of the city check into your next hotel for a two night stay.

Day 6
Sotuta de Peon
Leave today for Hacienda Sotuta de Peon, where you can see the transformation process of the henequen thread, Yucatan´s old green gold. Walking through the Hacienda you will make a true journey back in time on board small wooden wagons pulled by mules over old rails shipped from France in the late 19th century. At the end of the tour, submerge yourself in the crystal clear water of a wonderful Cenote. After lunch in the Hacienda, return to your hotel in Merida.

Day 7
Chichen Itza
The highlight of the tour today when you discover the majesty of Mayan antiquity and one of the most important archaeological sites on the planet. Chichen Itza is a Unesco World Heritage Site with two distinct architectural zones. And each year during the spring and summer equinoxes the sun produces an illusion of a serpent ascending of descending the steps on the Pyramid of Kukulkan, which you will be there to see. Then leave for Cancun and a final night back at the Beachscape Villas.

Day 8
Depart Cancun
Today your wonderful tour around the ancient Mayan sites of Mexico comes to an end. Possibly time for some last minute sun bathing on the beach or shopping before you are picked up from your hotel and taken to the airport to catch an onward flight or begin your journey back home. This tour is perfect for anyone with an interest in Mexico's colourful history and architecture and seeing the Spring Equinox at Chichen Itza is a memorable experience.
