General

Accessible only by boat, Gaya Island Resort at Pulau Gaya is set within the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park off the coast of Kota Kinabalu in Borneo. A natural sanctuary nestled in the hillside of an ancient rainforest, this beachfront resort features 120 villas and a two-bedroom suite, along with a multitude of activities and a Spa Village, as well as unique dining experiences.

Spa

Set amidst lush mangroves, the Spa Village at Gaya Island Resort is a tranquil hideaway surrounded by island flora and fauna. Treatments utilise only the finest fresh local ingredients and reflect the cultural healing traditions of the indigenous people. From the specialised rice scrubs and masques of the Kadazandusun to the age-old practices of the Bajau sea nomads, the spa utilises ancient traditions to restore balance to the body and soul.

Room Description

Each 47 sq m villa at Gaya Island Resort has a spacious bedroom, writing desk, safe, flat screen television with satellite channels, large open bathroom with oversized bathtub and two vanity units, and an outdoor veranda with day beds. Villas range from the Kinabalu, with views over the South China Sea, to the Bayu, set amongst tropical mangroves. The two-bedroom Suria suite has uninterrupted views of Mount Kinabalu and the ocean.

Activities

PURE activities are part of the programme at Gaya Island Resort. Guests can explore miles of ancient ecosystems on guided nature trails or experience a yoga class beneath the trees, and discover marine life either in the house reef or on snorkelling and diving trips. Fishing expeditions can provide a unique evening meal, while story-telling sessions and culinary, handicraft and dance classes reveal the secrets of local tribes.

Dining

Regional cuisine and exquisite fresh seafood are prepared by skilled chefs at Gaya Island Resort, and can be enjoyed in the comfort of guest villas, as a picnic on the island or around a crackling barbecue. Meanwhile, Feast Village provides a great dining experience with an open kitchen, and Fisherman’s Cove offers the best in fine dining. The Pool Bar and Lounge is an ideal setting to relax with a cocktail or enjoy a light snack.
