Guests can expect a warm welcome welcome at the luxurious yet homely boutique-style Lion Sands River Lodge, in the award-winning Lion Sands Game Reserve. Sitting on the banks of the Sabie River bordering Kruger National Park, it can be easily accessed by car or plane from Johannesburg. Charter flights are available to Skukuza Airport, Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport and Mala Mala Airfield. Transfers from airports to Lion Sands can be arranged.

The Lalamuka Health Spa is a luxurious retreat in the heart of the lodge offering a range of beauty and spa treatments including massages.

Room Description

Each of the lodge’s 20 traditional thatched rooms has its own private wooden viewing deck with unrivalled views across the beautiful Sabie River. The interiors feature pebble-inlaid floors and a tranquil neutral colour scheme. Each room has an en-suite bathroom complete with an indoor and outdoor shower, as well as a king-size bed with mosquito net. If you want something more special, why not fall asleep to the sound of nature when you spend the night in the Chalkley Treehouse, which offers all the comforts of lodge rooms.

The Lion Sands Reserve is home to a diverse range of African wildlife, which makes for excellent game viewing opportunities. Guided bush walks and exciting game drives are available from the lodge. If you’re lucky, you might see rhino, lion, zebra, cheetah and buffalo. Bush walks are the ideal opportunity for bird watching – will you spot a paradise flycatcher, a martial eagle or a marabou stork? Back at the lodge, take a dip in one of two heated swimming pools before dinner.

Breakfast and lunch are served on the lower viewing deck, but you can also enjoy lunch at your villa. Options for dinner include fine dining indoors, or a buffet in the outdoor boma under the stars. If you’re feeling adventurous, meals can also be served in the bush, but if you simply fancy a drink, kick back and relax in the lounge and bar.
