The hotel is located on the Corniche in the centre of Luxor, with splendid views over the Nile. This is the place to be in Luxor. This is the original Luxor Hotel built in 1886 and used by the well to do tourists at the turn of the century and ever since. This is where Agatha Christie penned much of Death on the Nile. It has features in holiday brochures from the 19th century. Right in the city centre, you can walk to nearby Luxor Temple. It is 7 miles to the nearest airport (Luxor international airport) 1 mile to the nearest station (Luxor station) Buses, taxis and caleches stop at the door. The 1886 French restaurant is a culinary experience - anything from crayfish to risotto. You need a jacket and tie (they will lend a tie) and a reservation. Also the atmosphere of the Royal Bar with its deep red walls and damask furniture and wood panelling takes you back to the turn of the century. The cool gardens and pool and the terraces are wonderful places to relax after a day sightseeing.

86 rooms, all in traditional style, in keeping with the hotel but with modern facilities. Choose from classic, superior or luxury rooms. The classic rooms have a choice of Nile or garden view and come with air conditioning, king size or twin bed, high speed internet access, mini bar, plasma screen TV and in room safe. Activities
Explore the west bank where the tomb of Tutankhamun is a must see for all travellers. It is a short caliche ride to the bazaar where you can haggle for spices, and all manner of clothes pots and Egyptian carpets. You can hire a bicycle and ride into the countryside or take a felucca down the Nile for a River-view of Luxor and the ancient ruins. Back in the hotel enjoy the heated outdoor pool set in the cool gardens. There is table tennis, volleyball and golf can be arranged nearby. The hotel has a souvenir and newspaper shop, but just outside is a shopping arcade with lots to look at.

There is a fabulous array of dining opportunities. For one night dress up and enjoy 1886. This is the candlelit, crystal chandelier extravaganza. You can have anything from risotto to crayfish. (jacket and tie required, they will lend a tie) La Corniche is the international restaurant where half board meals are taken. L’Oasis is a pool restaurant and bar with a swim up facility. There are 4 more bars. Royal and Victorian Bars ooze turn of the century elegance, whilst Central Park and Nile Terrace are ideal for afternoon tea and sundowner gin and tonics
