See the old crocks

The Guacalillo Estuary and the Tarcoles River offer the chance to observe one of the largest colonies of crocodiles in the world, the richest mangrove forest in the Mid-Pacific coast and the most important area in the country for the conservation of the scarlet macaw. Your boat will head along the mangrove, an awesome ecosystem that features four different species of mangrove trees.

As the boat approaches the riverbanks, you get a close-up look at wild crocodiles, each up to 15ft long. The crocodile was once very common in mangrove swamps and coastal rivers but the population has been severely decimated by skin hunters. Nowadays, thanks to conservation programs, there are between 80 and 240 crocs per mile in the Tarcoles River.
