The Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage is situated on the outskirts of Nairobi, around a 45 minute drive from the city and makes a wonderful visit while staying in Kenya's capital city. The Sanctuary is run by Daphne Sheldrick herself and is set in the grounds of her house making the whole operation a real family affair and this is one experience you won't forget.

Here you will see the orphaned animals and meet the people who handle and care for them. Meet the Medicine Man

You are picked up from your hotel and driven south to the Kaya Kinondo Sacred Forest, a proposed UNESCO heritage site located in the Diani Beach area south of Mombasa. The local Digo community has formed Kaya Kinondo Ecotourism project that offers controlled access into this pristine and untouched forest, which is still used for rituals and sacrificial offerings by the Digo tribe.

On a walk through the forest, which forms a rich ecosystem with 187 species of plants, some of which are rare, you will see monkeys, dik-diks and elephants and visit Kinondo Village to interact with the locals and meet the medicine man. Kaya Kinondo ecotourism project is an initiative by the community in promoting conservation and sustainable development. Then return to your hotel in time for lunch.
