When visiting Canada you can take this tour with a difference heading north to Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut, where you will feel like you are in a different country. The dusty townscape, with its spectacular natural setting around a bay, and its moon-base buildings, is home to a fascinating mixture of Inuit professionals, politicians and dropouts from around Canada and beyond . . . and its a place where you can have some wonderful adventures
Arrive in Iqaluit
The flights are included in your tour and after leaving either Montreal or Ottawa you touch down at Iqaluit Airport where you are met by one of our representatives. Your adventures here begin right away when you are taken on a two hour historical and cultural guided tour of the capital city during which you will be given an introspective view of the unique lives of the people who live in this part of the Canadian Arctic. Overnight in Iqaluit.
Begin the first of two full days of adventure and discovery on a variety of excursions led by knowledgeable local guides. All the trips you take begin with a morning pick up from your hotel and visit to a nearby outfitters shop to get kitted out in appropriate clothing depending on where you are going and what you are doing. Snacks and drinks are provided on the trips and you are brought back to your hotel at the end of each day.
Another day of adventures in and around Iqaluit. In summer you can go on a four hour guided dog sledding tour, go hiking across the tundra and take a sea kayak out and paddle along the coastline. If you visit in winter you can also go on a dog sled for the day or take a guided snowmobile tour along some of the caribou trails. Back in town there are plenty of good restaurants which you can dine with the locals after a day in the wild.
Today your exciting trip to the Canadian Arctic comes to an end. You still have the morning to explore the area or possibly embark on another adventure before you are picked up from your hotel and driven to the airport to catch a flight back to either Montreal or Ottawa. This short trip to one of the less visited parts of Canada makes a great add on to any longer stay in the country and will leave you with lots of wonderful memories of your time in the frozen north.
