Overview
This six-day tour is a perfect introduction to the beautiful country of Cambodia. You'll begin in the bustling capital, Phnom Penh, before heading to Siam Reap, gateway to the fascinating ancient city of Angkor Thom and to Angkor Wat, the world's biggest temple. Along the way you'll take in spectacular temples and lush natural landscapes, and you'll have plenty of opportunities to learn more about Cambodia's history and way of life.
Day 1
Arrive Phnom Penh
You'll be met on arrival in Phnom Penh by your local, English-speaking guide, who will accompany you to your hotel. Once renowned as one of the most beautiful cities in the Orient, Phnom Penh is a bustling city of tree-lined boulevards and charming colonial-era buildings, located at the confluence of the Mekong and Tonlé Sap rivers. This evening you will enjoy a welcome dinner of both Khmer and Western cuisine on a restaurant terrace with sweeping river views, and you'll be able to watch a performance of Apsara dancing as you dine. Afterwards, you can return to your hotel or explore the riverfront night market.

Day 3
Phnom Penh to Siem Reap
This morning you'll leave Phnom Penh and travel through the countryside and small villages towards Kampong Thom. You'll stop en route at Skun Market where, if you're brave enough, you can buy a snack of tasty fried spiders. You'll also stop at Sambor Prei Kuk, a collection of over 100 well-preserved temples dating back to the sixth and seventh centuries, dotted throughout a lush forest, as well as at a nearby village to observe the craftspeople making bamboo and rattan products and to enjoy a delicious lunch. You'll then continue to Siem Reap, where you'll stay overnight.

Day 4
Siem Reap
After breakfast this morning you'll travel to the ancient city of Angkor Thom by remork (an auto rickshaw similar to a tuk tuk). Angkor Thom was the last capital of the Great Khmer Empire under the reign of Jayavarman VII. It's surrounded by a huge, perfectly square wall, and you'll enter through the ancient South Gate, an impressive stone gate carved with elephants and four giant faces. On each side of the entrance path, a row of 54 gods or demons is holding the sacred Naga snake. You'll continue to Ta Prohm temple, an incredibly picturesque and atmospheric site, built in the 12th and 13th centuries and now overgrown by jungle trees and vines, with many parts of the temple in ruins. You'll have the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 5
Siem Reap
You have this morning at leisure to explore Siem Reap or just relax at the hotel. This afternoon, you'll visit the biggest temple in the world: the magnificent Angkor Wat. Built by Suryavarman II in the early 12th century and considered the masterpiece of Khmer architecture, this Vishnuite temple is the King's funerary temple. Inside, the walls are covered with carvings and bas-reliefs depicting Hindu mythology and the wars Suryavarman II fought during his reign. You'll have plenty of time to take it all in, and as the sun sets you'll be able to see how the evening light changes the appearance of the 2,000 Apsara dancers decorating the temple.
