Set on a romantic inlet in the lagoon of Bora Bora, one of the French Polynesian Society Islands, this Sofitel hotel is located on its own private island (‘motu’). It truly is the stuff of dreams (note that it is reserved for adults and older children only). You’re surrounded by crystal-clear waters, lush vegetation and, in the background, the extinct volcanic peak of Mount Otemanu. From the airport, you’ll be taken on a 20-minute cruise to the island. Once there, prepare to be amazed…
You can arrange to have a soothing outdoor massage, and the resort also has a solarium.
The 31 rooms and one suite are a perfect blend of traditional – with beautiful wooden floors and thatched roofs – and ultra-modern – sumptuous beds, stone-tiled bathrooms with rain showers and luxury toiletries, air-conditioning, minibar, wifi and plasma satellite TVs. As well as the stilted overwater bungalows – connected by a wooden walkway – there are island luxury lodges set in the garden that have their own private terraces, and a luxury villa, which has a large terrace with Jacuzzi and its own kitchen.
Unsurprisingly, everything centres around the water here and if you enjoy watersports you’ll be in heaven – there’s a private beach to enjoy as well as canoeing, kayaking, jet-skiing, water-skiing, parasailing, deep-sea fishing, and snorkelling and scuba diving in the coral reefs.
You can enjoy panoramic views below a pandanus-thatched roof as you tuck into breakfast and a selection of international meals at Manu Tuki, which has its own wine cellar. The truly romantic can also arrange private dining on the beach. For drinks, there’s cosy Mako Bar, which features a daily happy hour.
