Daydream Island forms part of the Whitsunday group, just off the north-east coast of Australia – an ideal location for exploring the Great Barrier Reef. To get there, you can either fly into Hamilton Island, from where you’ll be transported to the hotel by catamaran in 30 minutes, or disembark on the Queensland mainland at Proserpine, and you’ll be taken by coach (30 minutes) to Port of Airlie followed by a ferry ride (30 minutes). If you’re feeling fancy, you can also arrange a helicopter transfer. Driving is also an option, heading up the Bruce Highway, or you can take a train to Proserpine railway station and catch a connection from there.

The award-winning Daydream spa, at the north end of the island, takes a holistic approach, with naturopathy, hydrotherapy and aromatherapy treatments on offer and a range of massages – including reiki and Indian head massage. You can lie back and enjoy the expansive Pacific Ocean views in one of the 16 treatment rooms, and make full use of the thermal tables, dual spa baths, hydrotherapy tubs and relaxation areas. Beauty treatments using organic plant oils are also available. While you’re there you can enjoy a glass of champagne and a little something from the Spa Cuisine menu.

Room Description

The resort has 296 stylish rooms and suites, spread out throughout the site – all have great views of the sea or rainforest. You can choose from garden rooms, with or without a balcony, ocean Bblcony and Coral Ocean balcony rooms and nine luxury suites. The rooms vary depending on the style, but provide amenities such as air-conditioning, satellite TV, fridge and minibar, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and seating area. Romantics can opt for the Daydreamer Suite, which looks out over Lovers Cove.

The emphasis is on fun, and complimentary activities of offer include beach volleyball, giant chess, water polo, sailing, bocce, coconut bowls and rainforest walks. There’s also an outdoor cinema, Australia-themed mini-golf and playground. The island has its very own manmade living coral reef – one of the largest in the world. It’s home to 83 corals – comprising 8 tons of coral rock – and 140 species of fish. Guests can have a go at feeding the stingrays and learn all about the reef and its inhabitants. On top of all that, there are opportunities for jet-skiing, paddle boarding, snorkelling, kayaking, tennis, helicopter trips to Whitehaven beach and excursions to the Great Barrier Reef.

The resort has three licensed restaurants: Mermaids, overlooking Mermaid Beach, for the freshest of fresh fish; family buffets at Waterfalls, on the banks of the Living Reef Lagoon; and casual bistro-style dining at The Fish Bowl. There’s also baked goods and hot drinks at the Boat House, the same plus milkshakes at The Coffee Bean Café, and cocktails and music at the Lagoon Bar.
