General
The five-star Mnemba Lodge is an award-winning beach paradise on an exclusive island 4.5km off the north-east coast of Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean. Surrounded by an atoll of breathtaking coral reefs, it boasts some of Africa’s most wonderful dive sites and is renowned as a romantic ocean destination, offering privacy and rustic exclusivity.
Room Description
The lodge has 10 secluded chalets, or bandas, each with a spacious veranda, surrounded by tropical beach forest and with a palm-covered walkway that leads to an en-suite bathroom with shower and basin. Rooms are simple, yet elegant, each featuring an intricate, detailed wood-carved scrolled headboards created by the island’s most skilled artisans.
Activities
Water sports activities abound from the Mnemba Island Lodge, such as deep sea fishing, snorkelling and kayaking. You can also learn to scuba dive at the hotel’s own PADI dive school. Back on land, there’s also the option to spend the day bird watching - there’s a large colony of doves on the island - or relax on the beach with a good book. If you’re on the island from April to August, you might witness green turtles hatching on the beach.
Dining
Baskets of fresh fruit, fish, lobsters, crabs and prawns arrive by traditional outrigger on Mnemba daily to create delicious breakfasts, lunches and evening meals. Meals are served in either an outside deck or on your veranda. The lodge can arrange private candlelit beachside dinners for honeymooners.
