Set in a natural cove on the north east coast of the exotic island of Zanzibar, off the east coast of Africa, with the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean on one side and lush green forest on the other, Essque Zalu Zanzibar is a truly magical hideaway. With the bustling streets of Swahili, and the delicious fragrance of the spice plantations in the air, here is a destination with a difference.
The 40 suites all have beautiful views over the lush tropical garden or sparkling Indian Ocean. Each one is crafted from local materials, with a traditional Makuti pitched roof, beamed ceilings, and filled with native artwork. Polished hardwood floors, crisp white paintwork and furnishings, all sleep three adults or two adults and two children. Stretch out in your spacious living room, prepare a light snack in your kitchen, chill out on the terrace overlooking your garden, or laze in your very own swimming pool. And when the day is done, relax in your supercomfortable king-sized colonial-style bed. The nine Zanzibar villas sleep between six and eight adults, and have their own private pool, in-room dining, kitchen, terrace or balcony. Modern bathrooms have everything you need including bidet and a shower.
Relax in your own pool, or hang out at the enormous infinity pool with its pontoon, fountain features, and circular sun decks dotted around it. Work out in the fitness centre, indulge in a hydrotherapy treatment at the spa, or try one of the watersports available – from scuba diving, jet ski or parasailing. Visit the Art gallery, where you will find paintings, sculptures, glassworks and photographs by local and regional artists. For adventures further afield, amble through Stone Town, the world’s oldest Swahili coastal trading city, and a World Heritage Site, browse round the bazaars and markets, the mosques and temples. Why not hire a traditional wooden dhow, and sail over to Prison Island, where you might encounter a giant toroise if you're lucky, or spot bottle-nosed dolphins. Trek through the forest in search of the fabled Zazibar leopard., scale the volcanic Mount Meru, or safari in a game reserve where all kinds of wonderful wildlife roam. Here the world really is your oyster.
