5 hottest bars in Nashville
Don't miss these awesome cocktail bars. The hottest places to unwind after dark.
Red Door Saloon
Biker bar – with skeleton under the floorboards
Whose skeleton it is, isn’t exactly clear. What is clear is that if you lie down on the bar room floor (after a few drinks, natch) and gaze through a peephole into the basement, you’ll see an actual skeleton taking a dirt nap. That’s just one of the talking/looking points in this eardrum-splitting, eye-popping bar, which comes with a well-stocked bar made entirely out of pennies. It’s a visual and aural cacophony. Get that beer down ya!

Tootsie's Orchid Lounge
History of honky-tonk
Its hallowed spot across the alley from the Ryman Auditorium means Tootsie's has long been the go-to-bar for thirsty country legends. Famous drinkers include Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Patsy Cline. That thread of history continues through Tootsie’s today – and with new music acts kicking off every morning at 10am, you’re just as likely to discover the next hot thing as to reminisce about the past.

The Patterson House
World away from spit and sawdust
Need a break from the beer and music halls of Broadway? The Patterson House is your oasis. Serving cocktails under vintage chandeliers, the bar feels like a very select, secret club. Yet, this being Nashville, it’s not. According to house rules: No fighting, no star f*cking, no name-dropping!” Cocktail of the night goes to the Bacon Old Fashioned, with Benton's bacon-infused bourbon, maple syrup and pecan coffee bitters!

Fran's East Side
Possibly the seediest bar in Nashville
They say Fran’s was here before East Nashville became cool. They also say that Fran’s was here before the dinosaurs (although that’s unproven). Whatever their providence, this good ol’ boy bar is rollicking fun, with karaoke old timers belting out the hits, buckets of beer on ice and no card machine in sight – so bring cash! Don’t be afraid though. It may be dingy – but it’s helluva friendly. Never a first stop, it makes a great last one though!

Robert’s Western World
Boot store by day, honky tonk by night
Two great reasons to visit this bar: the best honky tonk music in Nashville, as enjoyed by the locals. And its wall of cowboy boots, also enjoyed by Nashvillians and travellers in the know.
If you’re on a budget, you’ll definitely want the Recession Special: a bologna sandwich, Pabst Blue Ribbon beer and a moon pie for $5. Come in wearing trainers, go home with belly full, ears satisfied and a new pair of boots that’ll make your inner cowboy/girl proud.
