Mise En Place
Top table in Tampa
Named the bay area’s best restaurant by USA Today, Mise En Place serves inspired upscale American cuisine. The menu follows the seasons and the chef’s culinary imagination, with such dishes as veal scallopini, and duck breast with edamame fried rice. A tasting menu features the chef’s five favourite dishes of the week, and desserts are delicious treats like chocolate pecan toffee mousse, while the eclectic wine list and artisanal cocktails can be sipped in the surrounds of the swanky lounge.

A taste of history
Priding itself on ‘native foods and spirits’, Ulele interprets historic Floridian foods for the 21st century. The charbroiled oysters and selection of steaks are the go-to option at this two-level, refined venue, decorated with artefacts created by local artists. Also on the dinner menu are Florida pompano and the Ulele salad, and desserts include unique candied bacon maple ice cream. The on-site brewery gives craft beers on tap, while the waterfront setting with outdoor seating tops off the experience.

Edison: Food & Drink Lab
Experimental excellence
Being all about innovation, Edison presents new interpretations of everyday dishes. Sample the various sizes of plates for an eclectic gastro experience, combining burrata with snapper tacos, smoked maple-glazed pork belly with black truffle Caesar salad, in chic yet unpretentious interiors. Wash down the creative cuisine with new microbrews and wines by the glass or bottle. There’s also an extensive list of crafted cocktails. This is without doubt one of Tampa’s finest culinary finds.

Holy Hog Barbecue
Barbecue at its best
A ‘hometown smokehouse’ with six Tampa locations, our favourite is the original Holy Hog in West Tampa. The place to go for St Louis ribs, Texas-style brisket and various sausages, this friendly venue is adorned with the owner’s interesting taxidermy and also serves a tempting array of sides, from succulent jalapeno macaroni cheese and corn fritters to homemade fries. Desserts are as American as they come, including buttermilk pie and banana pudding. Fun and filling for meat-lovers.

Rooster & The Till
Fresh from farm and field
A charming 70-seat eatery in the Seminole Heights area of Tampa, Rooster & The Till prides itself on using local ingredients brought directly from farm to table. Diners can begin with a cheese or charcuterie board, followed by the likes of pork jowl with corn pudding or skirt steak, served as ‘small plates’ so you can sample as many as you dare. Finish with a white chocolate chai ganache while observing the chefs in the open kitchen, and knocking back a range of beers and wines by the glass or bottle.
