Miami

5 best restaurants in Miami

Our favourite places to eat. Enjoy awesome food and stunning decor

1 Juvia

Dynamite view with food to match

South Beach, that coolest of places, is retaking its crown as one of Miami's top dining spots. Juvia is the poster boy of that culinary revival, offering up a mix of French, Japanese and Peruvian fare. Try the salmon nashi with truffle oil, it's remarkable. You're dining in a modernist setting, with vertical gardens, art-deco architecture and vast Atlantic views. Juvia is uber trendy (even the parking garage was designed by renowned Swiss boutique architects) and attracts the ultra-chic set.

2 Joe’s Stone Crab

Full-flavour seafood hauls in the crowds

A Miami landmark, everyone knows that for the best stone crabs, served with a famous mustard sauce, Joe's is the place. From its modest origins in 1913 as a beachside seafood kiosk, Joe’s never short-changes on flavour. Today, it’s the best place to eat Miami seafood, open only during stone crab season (closed between May and mid-October). It’s also hugely popular, so either be prepared for a wait as they don’t take reservations or grab a crab to go from Joe’s Takeaway.

3 Beaker & Gray

Cool and creative

Named after utensils used to mix drinks and serve food, this is a classy joint with exposed brickwork and woody décor. The innovative, globally inspired menu includes cold dishes such as glass noodles with green papaya, small plates like pumpkin gnocchi, and mains such as tiger shrimp risotto. Also home to a vibrant bar with atmospheric music, Beaker & Gray serves shaken, stirred and non-alcoholic cocktails as well as a range of beers and wines, all in Miami’s arty Wynwood area.

4 The News Café

The place to see and be seen

Ocean Drive is the hippest and most beautiful stretch of Miami Beach. You’d expect every restaurant there to be snooty and expensive. Not so. The News Café offers affordable 24-hour breakfasts, decadent desserts (like champagne and strawberries), a stunning oceanfront atmosphere and, to keep you informed, a vast international newsstand. What’s more, you will love watching the beautiful people as they pass by on their way to and from the beach, just across the street!

5 Swine Southern Table & Bar

All worship the noble hog

Harry Truman once said, “No man should be allowed to be president who does not understand hogs.” That notion could put the team at hog-heaven Swine Southern Table & Bar next in line for the presidency. These people understand, indeed, are experts, at all things porcine. The restaurant is down to earth, great fun, perfect for Kentucky Bourbon, classic Southern culture and hospitality – and, most importantly, heaped portions of fall-off-the-bone pig flesh.

2 hottest bars in Miami

Don't miss these awesome cocktail bars. The hottest places to unwind after dark

1 The Broken Shaker

Pop up bar on the beach

What’s better than deliciously novel cocktails? A totally unpretentious spot on the beach. The Broken Shaker gets full marks for both and keeps drinkers entertained on top of that. First step is to choose your drink. We suggest the Agave Fairy: tequila, homemade papaya vinegar and pickled radish. Then head outdoors to soak up the atmosphere, which includes a pool, hammocks, ping pong tables, a bocce ball court and even Jenga for the less inebriated.

2 Purdy Lounge

Good old fun party spot

With a bar which serves the finest Margaritas and Cosmopolitans in Miami, you’d expect the crowd to be rather snooty. Definitely not so at the Purdy Lounge. This place is pure purdy, uh, party! A sexy yet laid-back interior sets the scene, with a curvy bar, chrome stools and moody lighting. Add to that a crowd that is as down to earth as it is fun-loving and you know you’re in the right place. Music is played from a CD-changer, and pool tables and surreal paintings complete the scene.
