Set on spacious private property in landscaped grounds, the architecturally designed Acacia Cliffs Lodge is set on the shores of the large freshwater Lake Taupo, in New Zealand’s North Island, where it offers spectacular views of some of the world’s most beautiful scenery, including Mount Tauhara, Acacia Bay, and the snow-capped Kaimanawa Mountain Range. The lodge offers a great base for exploring the surrounding landscape, from the mountains and the native bush to the crystal-clear rivers and steaming thermal springs.

The lodge offers boutique bed and breakfast accommodation for up to eight guests in four individually decorated en-suite lodges, three with a private deck with lake view – designed to catch the morning light, or one with a garden courtyard that get s the afternoon sun. The Superking or twin beds are made with feather and down superlight duvets, there are flat screen TV, CD and DVD players, and a complimentary selection of New Zealand wine beer, and speciality Harney teas and coffee, while the sumptuous bathrooms have fluffy bathrobes and slippers, double vanities, underfloor heating and hairdryers. there is a choice of pillows, and complimentary Wi-Fi. The garden view lodge has a freestanding bath too.

As well as a huge variety of activities just a short drive away, there is plenty to do at the lodge too. Explore the range of native plant and birdlife in the grounds, or relax on one of the sun decks and enjoy the spectacular views. There is an inroom spa service, offering treatments from massage to facials, as well as good selection of books and magazines, as well as DVDs and board games in the library. And when you feel the need to move a bit further afield, there are mountain bikes for guests’ use, and plenty of good trails to enjoy, or your hosts can provide you with a picnic to take to Acacia Bay where you can have a swim, or take out a boat. There is an al-fresco café and a local artists’ gallery and ceramics studio just a few minutes’ walk from the lodge and the Acacia Store can provide fishing licenses.

A hearty breakfast is provided each morning, and pre-dinner canapés and drinks every evening. A four-course dinner is offered, by arrangement, at a cost of NZ$115 per person, and there is also a good list of local restaurants and brasseries available – your hosts are happy to arrange reservations for you.
