5 best restaurants in Auckland

Our favourite places to eat. Enjoy awesome food and stunning decor

1 Sidart

Eclectic degustation with a view of the city

Sophisticated and softly lit, Sidart enchants from the start. This degustation-only restaurant offers a menu that changes weekly so you’re never sure what’s in store. Rest assured, that your palate will leave happy, after tasting dishes, made from seasonal New Zealand produce, like pan-fried snapper with curry emulsion. Service is smart, with staff knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. There’s also Sidart’s Test Kitchen which is even more adventurous.

2 Clooney

A celebrity of a restaurant

Though there may be a more famous Clooney in Hollywood, this Auckland star is definitely on the A-list of restaurants. Multi-award winning, Clooney serves up classical cuisine with contemporary techniques and ingredients. Located in the heart of Freemans Bay, the flavours are simple, seasonal and assertive. Its elegant ambiance only adds to your enjoyment, offering intimacy in a sumptuous environment, and, naturally, an outstanding wine list. By the times the credits roll, you’ll be planning a sequel.

3 The Grove

Michelin Star style cuisine in Auckland

As well known for its multi-award winning success as for the quality of its dishes, The Grove delivers impeccable taste in Kiwi Land. Modern in style yet embracing classic French techniques, the menu is ingredient-driven using only organic, sustainable and seasonal produce. The awards blaze on through the wine list, featuring the best from around the world. And The Grove enjoys a sublime location next to historic Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in the heart of Auckland city.

4 One Tree Grill

One of a kind in Auckland

Located near its famous volcanic “One Tree Hill” namesake, this impeccable grill serves up unique cuisine and offers a refreshing departure from the bustle of inner city dining. It’s been a mainstay on Auckland’s restaurant scene for over 15 years and, thanks to its continued evolution, continues to garner the peoples’ and the critics’ awards. Outstanding cellared wines, innovative cuisine and thoroughly professional service, One Tree Grill is one not to miss.

5 Tatsumi

Christchurch favourite moves to Auckland

Having moved due from Christchurch, Tatsumi reopened its doors in a wonderful location in beautiful Auckland. Fortunately for us, their Japanese sparkle which made them one of their former home’s best restaurants has blossomed further in the City of the Sails. A truly inventive menu awaits, like wasabi infused mashed potato with crispy skin salmon as well as what diners call “the best sashimi in Auckland”. Oh, and don’t miss the green tea fondant, it’s a house speciality.

5 hottest bars in Auckland

Don't miss these awesome cocktail bars. The hottest places to unwind after dark

1 Lime

Late nights need an easy vibe

A long, narrow space for last-calls, Lime is refreshingly down to earth, playing all sorts of music from Springfield to Sinatra. It’s not the hippest place and doesn’t pretend to be, but it packs people in all the same. Its older crowd isn’t even embarrassed about singing along when things get raucous. Lime is almost always on the Best Bars list. Cocktails are the drink of choice; they’re made by staff who know what they are doing and there’s a range. Our only advice is to arrive early if you’d like a table

2 Breeze Bar

Heavenly cocktails on a rooftop

It may be hard to find but, once you embark up its marble staircase, you?ll agree the searching was well worth it. Breeze Bar is one of Auckland?s top rooftop bars in a city famous for them. They?ve got palm trees growing to give it a tropical vibe and around 60 cocktails on the menu. It?s really the perfect place for sundowners, not least because when it gets dark, there?s a nightclub just downstairs. Cheers to that!
