A stunning conservation retreat the One & Only Wolgan Valley is situated in the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, just two and a half hours’ drive from Sidney. Tucked between two of Australia’s finest national parks, the Wollemi National Park and the Gardens of Stone National Park, where it forms the perfect blend of seclusion and luxury in a bush setting, and is the ideal base for exploring and enjoying the resort’s wildlife, history and culture. With no mobile coverage, this really is the great escape.
Room Description
Accommodation at Wolgan Valley is in the form of 40 freestanding suites, designed and built to echo the architecture of the original homestead on the property. Each of the suites has a private verandah, its own swimming pool and double sided fireplace, as well as stunning views of the rugged sandstone escarpments of the Wolgan Valley. There are 36 one-bedroom Heritage Suites, which sleep singles or couples and three two bedroom Wollemi suites. In each of the suites, a double sided fireplace made of local sandstone separates the bedroom from the living area. Warm earthy tones are complemented by wooden furniture crafted by Wolgan Valley artisans, and there is Wi-Fi access, and state-of-the-art entertainment systems. All the suites come with binoculars for viewing the wildlife, and mountain bikes. Bathrooms have separate showers and baths, double vanities, and luxurious Sodashi and IKOU toiletries. Activities
If you can bear to leave your suite, the 7,000 acre wildlife reserve of Wolgan Valley is waiting to be explored. The resort offers a wide range of ways to do this, with hiking nature trails, trekking on horseback, four-wheel drive safaris, mountain biking, as well as painting and photography tours. And when you’ve done all that, you can sit on your verandah and gaze at the canopy of stars above your head. Or you can check in to the Spa, and enjoy anything from a mountain aroma massage to an bathing ritual, with chemical-free products made by Sodashi, a range based on ancient healing traditions incorporating top quality plant essences.
Dining
The One & Only serves uniquely Australian cuisine in two locations. The Wogan Dining Room, which is located in the Homestead and serves breakfast, including freshly baked pastries, muesli and fruit compotes as well as cooked dishes, and a six-course gourmet dinner, with magnificent views over the valley. The Country Kitchen is a casual providore-style dining room, serving light lunches and afternoon snacks, which can be enjoyed picnic-style in the surrounding landcape.
The Valley Bar & Terrace Lounge has a large veranda to enjoy your drinks on in the summer, and an open fire inside in the winter. The resort has 150 Australian and international wines to choose from and there is a walk-in wine and cheese room in the main Homestead where you can make your selection. Private dining is also available, from romantic diners under the stars – on your own deck if you wish – to a special gathering in the private dining room or a gala dinner in the Homestead.
