Overview
This exciting cruise into the heart of the Amazon is a true expedition, with seven full days and seven nights of deep forest exploration. This is the most active, sophisticated, comfortable, and authentic nature cruise in the Amazon and with the help of trained naturalist guides, a good boat, a skilled crew, and adventurous passengers, you venture far into the rain forest wilderness seeing an amazing array of exotic birds, animals and insects. The cruise is a holiday in itself, or makes a great add on to any trip to South America. The Tucano has comfortable cabins, with large beds and private baths, is air conditioned throughout and takes small groups.
Day 1
Manaus
Board the Motor Yacht Tucano in the morning and sail upstream on the Rio Negro, cruising through the world's largest river island system, the Anavilhanas Archipelago. From the observation deck you will see the magnificent tangle of vegetation at the water's edge. Later the vessel enters a wilderness area with both shores covered by dense rain forest. You will have a good chance of seeing pink river dolphins and a large collection of exotic birds among the magnificent forest vistas. In the evening you leave in a launch and hunt for wildlife. You can also go for a swim in some of the world's most clean and refreshing water before dinner.

Day 2
Explore by launch
Early this morning you explore the rain forest along the waters edge in a launch. You should hear and see howler monkeys along with a morning serenade of toucans. After breakfast go for a walk in the forest where you will get a good start on understanding Amazon ecology. Around noon return for lunch and the Tucano will get underway, perhaps stopping at a place to swim. In the late afternoon explore the forest again using launches and listen to the sunset chorus of birds and frogs.

Return for breakfast followed by either a walk in the forest or another trip out in the launches. Tucano will travel during the middle of the day and stop in the afternoon for another excursion into the jungle. Tonight the vessel sails on during dinner and you can marvel at the clear night sky ablaze with stars.

In the early afternoon you will be near an extraordinary river called the Rio Jauaperi. Here you will see a kind of forest known as the varzea. Look out along the shoreline for some of the extraordinary creatures found only in this unique environment. Weather permitting you will go on a night excursion to observe nocturnal creatures

Day 6
Lago Janauari Ecological Park
This morning we visit the Lago Janauari Ecological Park where the thick brown water of the Amazon flows swiftly through the forest. This area is thick with life and we are almost guaranteed to see monkeys. We then travel to the “Encontra das Aguas” the stark several mile long line where the world’s two largest rivers, the Amazon and the Negro, join in a turbulent maelstrom. In the evening we will return to Manaus and overnight on the boat.
