Argentina Polo Day

Learn to play the game

This fun excursion is designed for you to become a polo player in a day. You begin with an informative talk about polo and its ponies. While you taste some delicious empanadas and excellent Argentine wine, your guide will explain how polo horses are selected, their blood lineages and how they are trained. You also learn the rules of the game, the equipment used and the different shooting techniques.

Then you watch a professional live polo match of four chukkas. With more than 30 horses in play, you see a fast paced game of pure adrenaline. In between chukkas, visit the pony line and learn about how a polo horse is taken care of, its feeding and preparation for a match. Lunch is part of this incredible experience and you can enjoy a traditional barbecue. Then you have a lesson before taking part in a mini polo match

A day in Uruguay

While staying in the capital city Buenos Aires it's well worth making this excursion into the neighbouring country of Uruguay, and the charming town of Colonia. Leave on a fast ferry for the 40 mile trip to the east bank of the River Plate and enjoy a superb lunch and a tour of the historical part of Colonia before stopping at the Real de San Carlos-Bullring.

Colonia is an irresistibly picturesque town enshrined as a Unesco World Heritage site. Its Barrio Historico, an irregular colonial-era nucleus of narrow cobbled streets, occupies a small peninsula jutting into the river. Pretty rows of sycamores offer protection from the summer heat and the riverfront provides a venue for spectacular sunsets.
