Your first port of call on the cruise is Naples. In this teeming city, scooters zip through traffic, and alleys lead to tempting trattorias serving pasta and rich red wines. Across the wide bay lies the romantic Isle of Capri, paradise gateway for the rich and powerful since Roman times. Nearby you can visit Pompeii or Heculaneum, destroyed by the wrath of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. And the scenic drive along the Amalfi Coast is worth every hairpin turn.
One of the highlights of the cruise and you chance to explore the Eternal City. Rome is only a short trip away from the port of Civitavecchia. The Catacombs, the Spanish Steps, the Colosseum, the Vatican City, the triumphal arch of Septimius Severus, Michaelangelo´s Sistine Chapel, to name but a few astonishing historical monuments, will fascinate you right from the start. If you can´t see it all or like to see it again, simply throw a few coins into the Trevi Fountain. Legend says visitors who do will one day return.
A choice of delights today when the Norwegian Epic docks at the port of Livorno. You can take a tour to the beautiful city of Florence and see all the stunning sights including the Duomo, the Uffizi Gallery with it's world famous art collection and the statue of David by Michelangelo at the Academia. Or if you want to stay closer to the port you can take a tour to Pisa and see the famous leaning tower.
Join the rich and famous today on the French Riviera when the Epic sails into Cannes. With all the excitement surrounding its annual film festival, it's easy to forget Cannes is only a small town on the French Riviera. But however small, there's no denying its style. Soak up the glamour in gourmet restaurants and on pretty beaches or take one of a number of tours that can be booked on board.
The oldest city in France awaits you with its “Vieux Port” (old port) and charming old town. All around it, the beautiful Provençal countryside, which artists such as Cezanne and Van Gogh fell in love with and where seven Popes reigned during the 14th century. In Avignon, they resided in a huge, fortress-like palace. For a bit of recuperation, they headed to Chateauneuf-du-Pape where the ruins of their summer residence still stand. Also worth a trip is Aix-en-Provence where you can take a stroll under the huge plane trees.
Today your memorable cruise around the western Mediterranean comes to an end when the Norwegian Epic arrives back into Barcelona. After saying farewell to new found friends there may be time for some more sightseeing and shopping in this stylish city before heading to the airport to catch your flight home having seen so many wonderful sights.
