Yoga around the world

Yoga, practised by many, is extremely popular among celebs such as Beyonce, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Anniston and Sting, because they can easily do it from wherever they are in the world, whether it be on location or a tour as many five-star hotels offer yoga sessions.  After all, one of the many great things about yoga is that all you need is your breath and a little bit of space. A 5000-year old practice, yoga combines spiritual techniques that are aimed at integrating mind, body and spirit.  It is also a very good exercise and helps the body cope with the stresses of everyday life.  Aside from exercise, the fundamental principles of yoga are relaxation, proper breathing, diet and meditation or positive thinking.   If you’ve never tried it before, then why not give it a go on your next holiday?  Your body will be naturally more relaxed, the stresses far less and time is on your side.  No matter where you are in the world, a yoga class will never be far away.  Here are a few options to go with the popular yoga positions: Cat-Like Pose In Miami – Keeping fit and healthy is a way of life in Miami and many hotels offer free weekly yoga classes by their rooftop swimming pools such as The Hotel at South Beach.  The Cat is a great yoga pose for the lower back muscles and very useful to do after getting off a flight to Florida. Take A Plunge From The Boat In The Caribbean – Test your balance skills with yoga at sea.  Cruise the Caribbean with Celebrity Cruises and you can enjoy three or four sessions in one week as you cruise around the islands.  The Boat will rapidly increase strength and muscle tone in your midsection, so a great way to combat the excess of food available while cruising! Thailand’s Salute To The Sun – Make the most of the sun in Koh Samui with a five-star luxury trip to the Six Senses Samui Hotel where they offer sunrise yoga.  Salute To The Sun is an excellent exercise for enhancing your flexibility, the strength in the core muscles that support your back and helping to relieve back pain.  This will set you up for the rest of the day to explore the best of Thailand’s beaches. Be A Warrior In The Himalayas – For a full mountain rescue therapy, The Ananda has the power to heal and soothe. 3000ft above the River Ganges, tucked away in the mystical Himalayas, it is here that the wise person journeys for enlightenment. At the very source of the ancient practices of yoga, meditation and ayurveda, you’ll thrive on the retreat’s totally immersed experience.  The Warrior is a challenging pose that strengthens the entire body while improving mental capacity and self control – and you’ll certainly do that in bucket loads at The Ananda. Bridge The Gap In Grenada – Enjoy a very health and relaxing holiday at LaSource in Grenada.  Highly qualified yoga instruction is included daily in a serene and inspirational setting of flowering trees and the natural music of flowing waters. The Bridge is effective in promoting relaxation and reducing stress. The legs and the hips do most of the work which helps in rejuvenating tired feet – perfect after a long day of sightseeing! Viva Las Vegas And The Downward Facing Dog – Only in Las Vegas and at The Mirage can you find balance and harmony while doing yoga poses among the dolphins!  This class, takes place Friday to Sunday in the underwater dolphin viewing area. This serene setting allows you to fall into a deep state of peace and relaxation. Downward Facing Dog helps to strengthen, stretch and reduce stiffness in the legs while strengthening and shaping the upper body. Holding this pose for a minute or longer will stimulate and restore energy levels if you are tired.  A fantastic way to rejuvenate before painting the city of Las Vegas red!
