The World Travel Awards is heading to Peru to make history as it prepares to host its first Central and South America Gala ceremony in July this year. The landmark event will take place in Lima, Peru, showcasing Lima as both a key tourist destination and a business hub in the hopes that more visitors will book flights to Peru in the years to come.
Since its inception in 1993, the World Travel Awards has recognised and rewarded excellence within the global travel, tourism and hospitality industry. To celebrate its 20th year the awards is heading to Peru to put on a red carpet event at the site of the ancient Huaca Pucllana temple, located in the heart of the city of Lima.
“We celebrate that an event of such importance as the 1st Latin American edition of World Travel Awards will be held in Lima, Peru,” said Jose Luis Silva Martinot, minister of foreign trade and tourism of Peru. We trust this will create a new window for the world’s leaders in the tourism industry, and travellers as well, to see the diversity offered by our country and region.”
“The chosen venue, the beautiful Huaca Pucllana, in the Miraflores neighborhood will show the world how our past and present live together, and how tourism is becoming key for a brighter future for our country.”
The fact that the awards are being held in Peru is significant because it highlights how much the country has developed, with Lima now regarded as one of the most important financial areas in Latin America.
"Bringing the region’s tourism influencers to Lima and highlighting globally just how much Peru has to offer the visitor, whether for business, for adventure, romance or a family holiday,” said Chris Frost, vice president of the World Travel Awards.
