Universal Orlando Resort has clinched the World Travel Awards title of World's Leading Theme Resort for the third year in a row.
The resort fought off competition from many of the world's top resorts, including Disney World Florida, Busch Gardens and Movie World in Australia. Universal Orlando Resort offers guests the choice of three hotels on-site. The Loews Portofino Bay Hotel provides Mediterranean-style accommodation with the feel of the Italian coastal village of Portofino, while the Hard Rock Hotel offers a more rock and roll alternative with a sand beach pool.
The third hotel in the complex is the Loews Royal Pacific Resort, which is said to offer "the allure of the south seas" with a tropical feel. Included in the stay at all hotels are queue-jump passes for the theme park and the chance to get into The Wizarding World of Harry Potter an hour before any other visitors.
"We're thrilled at being recognised for the exceptional experiences that we provide guests at Universal Orlando," said Alice Noteworthy, executive vice president of marketing & sales at Universal Studios, Florida. "We had a great year this year and we're just going to continue the momentum this year with the opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter," she added.
Universal Orlando includes two theme parks - Universal Studios Florida and Universal's Islands of Adventure, which includes the Harry Potter attraction. Summer 2013 sees the opening of the new Transformers 3D ride at the Orlando park, already installed at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Other attractions to look out for include the Despicable Me Minion Mayhem 3D ride and a new improved high-def Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man ride.
