Rihanna encourages fans to fly to Barbados

In a bid to get more people travelling to Barbados, the Barbados Tourism Authority has enlisted Rihanna as its new spokes person.  A sneak preview of the campaign has already gone viral and is on the road to becoming a global hit. The multi-platinum superstar has used social media sites Facebook and Twitter to promote Barbados to her huge following of fans. Rihanna has 63 million followers on Facebook and 26 million on Twitter so naturally when she ‘shared’ a preview of the new campaign it became an internet hit with fans urged to use the hashtag #Barbados. The whole campaign will be shared virally via social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and will end at the start of March. The idea is to let people interact and explore what Barbados has to offer by giving people a chance to see a completely new side of Barbados. The video campaign features Rihanna visiting more than just the normal sandy beaches previously seen in advertisements. Locations included in the video are Six Men’s Bay where viewers see Rihanna playing dominoes with fishermen, and the Animal Flower Cave which is home to many natural underground pools. Vice president of Barbados Tourism Authority, Petra Roach said that BTA was “really pleased with how our campaign has combined heritage with innovation to differentiate Barbados.” “This campaign with its different elements, gives us the chance to launch on a variety of social media platforms which not only increases the size of the Barbados fan community but also does so in an organic way.” Image Sources: 1 , Barbados Tourism Authority
