Team Qatar

Qatar Airways partner with national football team

Qatar Airways has announced a partnership with Qatar’s national football team ahead of the upcoming Gulf Cup of Nations. The airline has been named the Official Airline of Qatar’s national soccer team.

The Gulf Cup starts on 5th of January in the Kingdom of Bahrain and will last two weeks. Seven teams, including Qatar, will compete in the region’s most prestigious football tournament of the year. As the Official airline for the team, Qatar Airways will assist in promoting the team’s brand during the tournament at matches both home and away.

The agreement was signed by the president of the Qatar Football Association, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani and CEO of Qatar Airways, Akbar Al Baker in Doha today. “This is a moment of pride to link up with our national football team and provide support as the team prepares for key matches and tournaments around the world,” stated Al Baker.

“I wish Team Qatar great success in the Gulf Cup and I am sure travelling fans from our country will enjoy a football spectacle during two weeks of exciting play on the field in Bahrain in the coming day.” he added. "Sport is one of the pillars of Qatar Airways’ strategy and football in particular will feature largely in our marketing activities this year and going forward... We are taking great steps to align ourselves with great brands at home and overseas.”

Other teams competing this year are Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Oman, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.  Qatar is also confirmed to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
