Provincetown in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, has been revealed as the most expensive destination for hotels in the United States. According to a new survey, the sea side destination has the most expensive double room rate in the whole of the USA.
The survey, carried out but CheapHotels.org, compared the prices of the cheapest double rooms available in America from the 1st July to the 31st August. Findings from the survey showed that visitors to Provincetown would have to spend an average of $217 per night for a double room.
Located at the extreme tip of Cape Cod, Provincetown sees a mass of tourists visit every summer, with its population increasing to 60,000 in the summer months, compared with a year-round population of just 3,000. It is best known for its beaches, harbour, artists and popularity within the LGBT community.
Cape May in New Jersey came in second on the list of most expensive US destinations, with the cheapest double room costing an average of $204 per night. Martha’s Vineyard, located just a short way away from Provincetown, came in third, with the average cheapest double room costing $202 per night.
Santa Monica, California, came in fourth at $199 per night following by Old Orchard Beach in Maine in fifth, at $192 per night for the most affordable double room. Calistoga in California, Kennebunkport and Ogunquit, both in Maine, Poipu in Hawaii, and Boston, Massachusetts come in sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth, respectively, costing between $175 to $186 per night.
