Those of us sitting at our desks today are likely to encounter an annoying amount of photos of our friends pitching up tents and showing off their festival fashions on Facebook today. As the festival season turns it up to 11 with Glastonbury kicking off this weekend, you may be envious of your friends who managed to get tickets to all of the UK's best festivals...
Luckily, there are still plenty of festivals around Europe to cater for every music lovers need. So don’t worry about wellies and raincoats and join us as we take a look at the top alternative music festivals you can still find within easy reach of flights to Europe this summer!
Croatia has rapidly become one of the hottest places for music festivals, with more and more events taking place every year. Electric Elephant kicks off on the 11th July and is perfect for all you house, dubstep, drum and bass or electro lovers out there.
In recent years the price of a ticket to Benicassim has gone up, but it’s still cheaper than Glasto - at £150 for four nights with camping! Located of the east coast of Spain sandwiched between Valencia and Barcelona, Benicassim takes place on the 18th to the 21st July and tickets are still available.
Dour festival in Belgium has an awesome, eclectic line-up this year, with Wu-Tang Clan, Simian Mobile Disco and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs all booked to perform. The festival starts on the 18th July and weekend camping tickets are just £106 pounds.
Exit festival has truly made a name for itself over the years, becoming one of the most popular music festivals in the unlikely location of Novi Sad, Serbia. £95 will get you a non camping ticket for the 11th-14th July and the chance to watch Bloc Party, Snoop Dog (or Lion!), Fatboy Slim and Eric Prydz this year.
North Sea Jazz
Those of you that are looking for something less ‘young’ should look no further than North Sea Jazz. From the 30th-31st August Rotterdam will host North Sea Jazz, a festival that’s been going since 1976, and this year’s line up includes legends such as Sting, Santana and Steve Winwood.
