The Plaza hotel in New York City has unveiled its new Fitzgerald suite to mark the release of the upcoming film The Great Gatsby. The suite, named after The Great Gatsby’s author, F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a tribute to the writer’s legacy as well as a celebration of the highly anticipated film.
The new suite is located on the 18th floor of New York’s iconic Plaza hotel. The 700sq ft space features an array of Art Deco pieces and period furniture, as well as pictures of F. Scott Fitzgerald himself and his wife, Zelda Fitzgerald. Photos of the cast members of the 2013 film adaptation, including Leonardo Dicaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire, are also feature around the Fitzgerald suite, with the hopes of luring Gatsby fans in for a pilgrimage holiday to New York!
Fitzgerald and his wife regularly visited the Plaza in their time, and the hotel is featured in The Great Gatsby novel. The penultimate scene of the American classic takes place in the hotel in the book, and has also been used for scenes in the film version, which was released today in the US and is due to come out later this month in the UK.
The suite officially opens on the 10th of May, costing from £1,800 per night per couple. People that can’t afford the Great Gatsby themed price tag can still enjoy a taste of the 1920’s at the Plaza, as the hotel is currently hosting a range of 20’s inspired brunches and afternoon teas, featuring a live jazz band and Gatsby-inspired cocktails.
