Machu Picchu voted world’s best landmark

TripAdvisor has named Machu Picchu the world’s best landmark at the inaugural Travellers’ Choice Attraction Awards. The winners were chosen based on millions of reviews and opinions from travellers on TripAdvisor’s site.

The Peruvian landmark claimed the top spot in the Top 10 World Landmarks category, followed by Angkor Wat, Cambodia in second and the Taj Mahal, India in third. The Petra World Heritage Site in Jordan came in fourth, and Bayon Temple in Cambodia came in fifth, making it the second Cambodian landmark in the top 10.

The Great Cathedral and Mosque in Spain, Church of Our Saviour on Spilled Blood in Russia, St. Peter’s Basilica in Italy,the Ancient City Walls in Croatia and Main Market Square in Krakow came in sixth, seventh, eight, ninth and tenth, respectively.

"To inspire travellers setting out on summer trips, TripAdvisor has named the top attractions across the globe based on the valuable feedback from millions worldwide," said Barbara Messing, chief marketing officer for TripAdvisor. "Honouring more than 1,200 winners, these remarkable sights offer enriching and entertaining experiences for travellers of all ages."
Central Park

Winners were found from 39 countries in total, based on the quality and quantity of traveller reviews of the attraction featured on TripAdvisor.com. The Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas were named the Top U.S Landmark, while Central Park was named the Top Park for those on holidays in the USA. Stanley Park in Canada won the top spot in the Top World Parks category, followed by Central Park, New York and the Garden of the Gods, Colorado in second and third, respectively.
