Best places in the USA to celebrate St Patrick’s Day 2014

Whether it's the world's largest parade in New York or a historic trail through Boston, there are plenty of activities across America to be enjoyed by people of all ages on St Patrick’s Day.  So, get your best green gear on, grab your lucky rabbit's foot and get ready to celebrate...

Take a weekend break to Chicago for St Patrick

Chicago kicks off its St Patrick’s Day festivities by dyeing the Chicago River a shade of emerald before the famous Downtown Chicago Parade, where Irish-inspired floats and dancers march in front of thousands of spectators. The Irish American Heritage Centre also hosts a party with contemporary Irish music, dancing, food, crafts and children’s games.

Take a trip to New York and you can join with the young & old on the St Patrick

New York
’s St Patrick’s parade draws millions of spectators each year.  Led up Fifth Avenue, the procession is filled with bands, performers, military and police groups, firefighters and many more.  Though only travelling a mile and a half, the spectacular parade often lasts up to five hours.  Afterwards, visitors can grab a pint at the oldest Irish pub in the city, McSorely’s Old Ale House in the East Village.

Feel at home in a proper Irish pub when you have a break in Boston

Visitors to Boston can walk the historic 20-site Irish Heritage Trail or stop by at the Irish Cultural Centre of New England. Boston is also the place to sample some of the best Irish cuisine stateside as well as boasting more Irish pubs than any other city in the US.  There are live performances across the city featuring the works of Irish playwrights and poets, river dance-style performances and traditional music.

In New Orleans St Patrick

New Orleans
provides a unique mix of Mardi Gras and Irish-inspired fun on St Patrick’s Day.  A week-long celebration of spectacle and pomp sees beads and flowers - along with traditional Irish stew ingredients including potatoes, cabbages, carrots, and onions - tossed to revellers as marching bands play on.

Savannah, Georgia has a huge celebrated St Patrick

Savannah, Georgia
, hosts the largest and oldest St. Patrick’s Day festival in the southeast. The Greening of the Forsyth Fountain and the decoration of historic Bay Street with green banners, flags and shamrock provides an impressive setting for this lively celebration.  Savannah’s historic downtown riverfront fills with people for the annual ‘St Patrick’s Celebration on the River’.  Visitors get the chance to drink green beer and sample emerald-coloured treats, for a true taste of St Patrick’s Day, Savannah-style.
