On this spectacular 13 day private tour around China you will see all the famous sights of this magical country. Beginning in mind blowing Shanghai and ending in the capital Bejing, you travel by road, river, air and bullet train seeing something new every day. You will visit the Great Wall, the incredible Terracotta Warriors, the famous giant pandas, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City as well as enjoying a relaxing four night cruise along the Yangtse River stopping at the Three Gorges Dam.
On arrival at Shanghai you will be met by your experienced local guide and taken to your hotel in the city for a three night stay. Shanghai is located in the east of China and sits at the mouth of the Yangtse River and is the largest, most prosperous and populous city in the country. Shanthai is also a hot tourist destination renowned for its many historical landmarks and modern buildings.
Start your day at the tranquil Yu Garden. Wander the Old Town and take a stroll along the colonial Bund, admiring the 1920s art deco architecture and looking across the river to the stunning high rise buildings of the Pudong business district. Visit the modern district of Xintiandi and this evening take a cruise on the mighty Huangpu River or take in the myriad of neon lights along the Nanjing Road.
This morning see more of this amazing city where the old and new meet. Visit the ultra-modern district of Pudong and take a trip up to the top of one or more of the world's tallest buildings for great views over the city. Then it's off to the airport to catch your flight to Yichang where you board your Yangtse River boat for a marvellous four night cruise along one of the world's great rivers.
A highlight of the cruise today when you visit the Three Gorges Dam, the biggest hydroelectric dam in the world, and cruise through the stunning Three Gorges, admiring the spectacular scenery. The Three Gorges Reservoir Region is a mountainous stretch along the Yangtse River between Yichang and Chongqing and the scenery in the whole of this area is stunning.
Another day of gentle cruising through the Three Gorges. Carved between steep cliffs are the trio or gorges Qutang, Wu and Xiling. You sail along the placid waters relaxing on board and enjoying the amazing views. Stop at the Baiheliang Underwater Museum which displays ancient stone carvings from beneath the river's surface and learn about the dam's construction.
The last day cruising through the awe-inspiring Three Gorges so make the most of every moment. The Three Gorges region has a total length of around 120 miles so there is plenty to see and do. Although it is mainly famous for its scenery, this region is also a historically and culturally important location in China. Many settlements and archeological sites are now under water and your guide will tell you all the stories connected with the building of the controversial dam.
Your four night Yangtse River cruise comes to an end today when you reach Chongqing, say farewell to the crew and disembark. Then it's time for your next adventure when you are taken to the train station to catch a bullet train to Chengdu, which is home to China's Giant Pandas. Stay the night here and have your cameras ready for the following day when you get to meet these lovable creatures.
This morning visit those lovable pandas at the famous Chengdu Panda Research Base in a setting that mirrors their natural habitat. Watch them eating and at play and see how the babies interact with their parents. Then after you visit to the centre you are taken to the airport to catch your flight to Xian, the ancient capital of China, and the place where the Terracotta Army was discovered.
Today you visit one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th Century, the life-sized Terracotta Warriors and Horses. See how they are lined in battle stance, protecting the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, in the afterlife. You will also walk or cycle around the ancient city wall, one of the best preserved in all of China. This evening dine on delicious Shui Jiao dumplings and watch a Tang Dynasty Dancing show.
Start today with a trip to the Little Wild Goose Pagoda and discover ancient artefacts at the Xian Museum. Join the locals in their morning ti chi sessions and stroll through the Muslim Quarters and explore the colourful Islamic food markets. Then in the afternoon you are driven back to the airport to catch your flight to Beijing, where you will be met and taken to your hotel in the city for a three night stay.
Another action-packed day which begins with a stroll through the famous Tiananmen Square, passing Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum. Then walk beneath the huge picture of Mao and into the treasure- filled Forbidden City, former home of the Ming and Qing emperors. In the afternoon visit the Summer Palace, former holiday home of the Qing emperors and in the evening watch an amazing acrobatic show.
Another special day when after breakfast at your hotel you head north of Beijing to the spectacular Great Wall of China where you will enjoy some time at the Juyongguan section. Walk along this part of one of the Great Wonders of the World and find out about it's fascinating history. In the afternoon visit the 15th-century Temple of Heaven before dining on sumptuous Peking Duck.
Today your wonderful 13 day tour around China comes to an end. Possibly time for some more sightseeing and shopping in the city before you are picked up from your hotel and driven to the airport to catch an onward flight or begin your journey home.
