On this memorable 13 day private tour around China you will see all the famous sights of this great country. Beginning in mind blowing Shanghai and ending in the capital Bejing, you travel by road, river, air and bullet train seeing something new every day. You will visit the Great Wall, the incredible Terracotta Warriors, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City as well as enjoying a relaxing cruise along the beautiful Li River.
On arrival at Shanghai you will be met by your experienced local guide and taken to your hotel in the city for a three night stay. Shanghai is located in the east of China and sits at the mouth of the Yangtse River and is the largest, most prosperous and populous city in the country. Shanghai is also a hot tourist destination renowned for its many historical landmarks and modern buildings.
Your first full day to explore this amazing city where the old meets the new. Visit the Shanghai Museum and take a stroll on the colonial Bund seeing the art deco buildings. Next take an excursion to the sleepy water town of Zhujiajiao where you can wander along the canal side streets, admire the white houses and enjoy the idyllic scenery. Return to the city later in the evening for a traditional Shanghai dinner.
Start your day at the tranquil Yu Garden. Wander the Old Town and take a stroll along the colonial Bund, and possibly call in for a drink at the famous Peace Hotel. Look across the river to the stunning high rise buildings of the Pudong business district, visit the modern district of Xintiandi and this evening take a cruise on the mighty Huangpu River or take in the myriad of neon lights along the Nanjing Road.
Today after breakfast at your hotel there may be time for some more sightseeing and shopping in Shanghai before you are driven to the airport to catch your flight to the beautiful city of Guilin. On arrival you will be be met by your local guide who will take you to your hotel. In the afternoon visit the picturesque Seven Stars Park and Caves and explore this colourful city.
A relaxing highlight of your tour today when you board a boat for a cruise down the languid Li River to the beautiful town of Yangshuo where you stay overnight. Admire the stunning limestone karst scenery as you float down the river and watch the local fishermen using cormorants to catch their fish in a centuries old tradition. Then enjoy your night in charming Yangshuo.
Spend this morning exploring the countryside around Yangshuo and seeing more of the town. This afternoon is at leisure and there are plenty of options from which to choose. You can go rafting on the Li River, cycling and hiking in and around Yangshuo, or shopping for souvenirs in the local markets. There is never a dull moment in this lively riverside community.
Today after breakfast at your hotel you are taken back to Guilin airport to catch your flight to Xian, the ancient capital of China and the place where the Terracotta Army was discovered. There is much more to Xian than the Terracotta Warriors, however, which you will discover when you visit the city's vast wall and walk around the tranquil parks and gardens.
Today you visit one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th Century, the life-sized Terracotta Warriors and Horses. See how they are lined in battle stance, protecting the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang, in the afterlife. You will also walk or cycle around the ancient city wall, one of the best preserved in all of China. This evening dine on delicious Shui Jiao dumplings and watch a Tang Dynasty Dancing show.
Start today with a trip to the Little Wild Goose Pagoda and discover ancient artefacts at the Xian Museum. Join the locals in their morning ti chi sessions and stroll through the Muslim Quarters and explore the colourful Islamic food markets. Then in the afternoon you catch a bullet train to China's capital city Beijing, where you will be met and taken to your hotel for a three night stay.
Another action-packed day which begins with a stroll through the famous Tiananmen Square, passing Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum. Then walk beneath the huge picture of Mao and into the treasure- filled Forbidden City, former home of the Ming and Qing emperors. In the afternoon visit the Summer Palace, former holiday home of the Qing emperors and in the evening watch an amazing acrobatic show.
Another special day when after breakfast at your hotel you head north of Beijing to the spectacular Great Wall of China where you will enjoy some time at the Juyongguan section. Walk along this part of one of the Great Wonders of the World and find out about it's fascinating history. And in the afternoon back in the city visit the beautiful 15th-century Temple of Heaven.
Start your final full day of the tour with an exciting rickshaw ride through the warren-like hutongs and in the afternoon visit the beautiful Summer Palace in its parkland setting, the former holiday home of the Qing emperors. Then there is no better way to end the day than with a sumptuous dinner enjoying the local delicacy ‘Peking Duck’ as your farewell meal.

Possibly time for some more sightseeing and shopping in the city before you are picked up from your hotel and driven to the airport to catch an onward flight or begin your journey home.
