5 hottest bars in Los Angeles

Don't miss these awesome cocktail bars. The hottest places to unwind after dark

Old South barrel-aged cocktails

1. Sassafras

Old South barrel-aged cocktails

Our all-time favourite bar

They went to great trouble building this place. After dismantling and transporting a grand house from Savannah, Georgia, they reassembled it in the middle of Hollywood. It’s, literally, the Old South on the West Coast. Coupled with the traditional warmth of Southern hospitality, it’s a perfect place to make yourself at home. You’ll need a cocktail, some featuring the eponymous root they use to make root beer, and other libations with ingredients like grilled peaches and pink peppercorns!

Hip Downtown wine bistro

2. Corkbar

Hip Downtown wine bistro

Here’s your chance to get intimate with all of California’s wine. Pouring over 70 wines by the glass, you can work your way through its entire range of styles. From Lodi to Napa Valley, it’s all here, Red, White, and Rosé. You can also marvel at the bar’s enormous, two story high wine bottle display – and bartenders and waiters are friendly and knowledgeable enough to help you navigate the wares. The rest is up to you. Simply swirl, sniff and taste.

Paradise for the hip

3. SkyBar

Paradise for the hip

It’s the crown of rooftop bars. With its secret Sunset Strip entrance, complete with ‘beautiful people only’ door code, this is a poolside bar where people actually do end up half naked and in the water. Its Mexican-style flowering walls, colourful nooks and obligatory mojitos, make sure SkyBar doesn’t fail to impress. Plus there are views to die for: from out onto the city or up and down the model-like waitresses. Be a player. Head down to the pool.

Hmmmm, beer!

4. Verdugo

Hmmmm, beer!

Can’t get enough of your lagers, ales, pilsners and the like? Then a visit to Verdugo in the Eastside is a must. Craft beer here is a passion – and the owner probably knows more about the stuff than anyone else in LA! Once you’ve grabbed a beer from the bar’s extensive selection, grab a seat. Choose a booth, the curved wooden bar or head out back to communal seating on the patio. The venue comes alive with regular parties, featuring boot races and stein-holding competitions.

Old classic keeps on rocking

5. The Viper Room

Old classic keeps on rocking

A visit to LA wouldn’t be complete without a night at its most famous (and infamous) club and bar, The Viper Room. Partially owned by Johnny Depp, this is a Sunset Boulevard institution. Despite its association with the city’s excess, it’s a comfy place, with a sociable scene and friendly staff. Renowned for being the break-out venue for new bands, it’s definitely worth checking out who’s playing. We also recommend grabbing table service so you miss out the bar queues.

8852 W Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood   Tel: (310) 358-1881
