French fancy

2. Brasserie Angelique

French fancy

Abu Dhabi is brimming with fine-dining restaurants offering the very best international cuisine, but our favourite new addition to the scene is the extravagant, French-inspired Brasserie Angélique. And it seems that Time Out agrees, having awarded the restaurant its Best Newcomer Award for 2013. An authentic French à la carte menu, created by artistic and experienced chefs, is served in plush surroundings that give a true Parisian feel. Specialities include steak tartare and sole meuniere, followed by the delicious desserts you’d expect in France. All in all, it’s passion served on a plate.

Little Italy in Abu Dhabi

3. Spaccanapoli

Little Italy in Abu Dhabi

Hungry? Head to this cosy, award-winning restaurant with views onto the bustling Hamdan Street, and order a metre-long (yes, really!) pizza with different toppings at both ends. Not only is this pizza huge, it’s delicious! And you can sample seafood, homemade pasta and antipasti along with excellent wines, all from the comfort of old-Naples-style surroundings. Sit indoors or out, watch Abu Dhabi life pass by and enjoy a great-value meal that will leave you wondering whether you’re really in Abu Dhabi or in Italy.

A beach barbecue to boast about

4. BBQ Al Qasr

A beach barbecue to boast about

Romance is the main ingredient on the menu at this idyllic beachside restaurant set within the Emirates Palace. The location and ambience here are hard to beat, and although you’ll pay a premium for them, they’re worth the expense. Meat-lovers, seafood fans and those after a traditional experience will all be satisfied, selecting from grilled steaks and fish complemented by tempting cocktails and a wonderful wine list. No trip to Abu Dhabi is complete without an authentic barbecue and this one is not to be missed.
