Cycle the Ancient City Wall

Cycle the Ancient City Wall

Ride round the amazing wall

On this fun tour, you not only walk around Xian's ancient City Walls, you can ride a bike around them too. These huge city walls are one of the best preserved in all of China. This huge impregnable structure, which has experienced 600 years of history, is an amazing sight. And after walking around them you have a chance to enjoy a gentle cycle around the wall for around 90 minutes, one of the must do things in the city.

When the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty captured the city, a hermit told him that he should build high walls, store abundant food supplies so that he could fortify the city and unify the other states. So he took this advice to heart and built the Xian City Wall which survives as one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world. To walk, or cycle, around the entire wall today is a trip of eight and a half miles.

Terracotta Warriors

Seeing is believing

Admit it, this is what you have travelled so far to see. Start this full-day tour with a visit to the famous UNESCO World Heritage listed Terracotta Warriors site, which is a little over one hour's drive from Xian. Here you see one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th Century . . . the amazing warriors and their horses, each one with individual faces and expressions.

The Terracotta Army is made up of more than 7,000 soldiers, horses and chariots. The life-sized figures were made by thousands of workers and designed by the self-proclaimed Emperor Qin Shi Huang to defend himself in his afterlife. Sightseeing here, which includes an excellent museum, involves approximately two and a half hours of walking and after lunch you are taken back to your city hotel.
