5 hottest bars in Durban
Don't miss these awesome cocktail bars. The hottest places to unwind after dark.
Gino’s Sky Bar
See the city in style
Breathtaking panoramic views of the city and a stylish alfresco setting make Gino’s Sky Bar one of Durban’s coolest corners to sip a cosmo. Feel the warm breeze on the top floor of John Ross House and hang out with a hip crowd, enjoying a Hennessey or Cuban cigar while gazing out at the stars. A great venue on top of the recommended Roma Revolving Restaurant, it’s always worth a visit whether you’re dining or not.

Beach Bums
Best bay views
A rustic weekends-only bar, with direct access to the beach on the north coast of KwaZulu Natal, Beach Bums boasts tables on the sand as well as decking and an inside area. Sip on cold beers, wines and cocktails and choose from the snack menu while feeling the sand between your toes. There’s live music on a Sunday afternoon, and you can take a dip in the sea and walk along the beach before returning to your table. Worth the drive out of the city centre for families and friends who love the beach.

Oyster Box
A new icon
With complete vistas along Umhlanga beach and out to sea, the Lighthouse Bar is (obviously!) defined by the spectacular landmark of the local lighthouse. Set within the new, boutique Oysterbox Hotel, which is also home to two other popular and swanky bars, it’s the perfect place to unwind with exotic cocktails and great music. Enjoy complementary snacks and mingle with locals and the trendiest of tourists.

Beanbag Bohemia
An arty experience
A longstanding Durban institution, Beanbag Bohemia is an arty venue within a beautiful building, making it a favourite with trendsetters and culture-lovers (hence the name). As well as featuring a popular dining menu and an art gallery, it’s famous for its exotic cocktails. Cool background music adds to the chilled-out vibe, making it the best spot in the city for pre- or post-clubbing drinks. If the bar area is packed, head outside to the courtyard and enjoy some simple people-watching.

Live music on the wharf
A bar and dining venue that supports local musicians, Zack’s offers everything from mini rock shows to afternoon jazz and open mic nights. Exotic, colourful (and deadly) cocktails will keep you coming back to Wilson’s Wharf for more. Set within this vibrant dockside location, there always seems to be a party atmosphere at Zack’s and all the seating is outside so you won’t miss any of the local buzz. A great place for live music and drinking.
Boatmans Road, Wilson’s Wharf
