Situated on the Musandam Peninsula on the country's northern border the high mountains of this region rise more than 2,000 metres above sea level and you have great views over the Strait of Hormuz. You can take a boat trip along the coast or go diving here on the beautiful coral reefs and there are lots of interesting archaeological sights to visit.
Today the Vision of the Seas arrives at Muscat, where you have two full days to explore. Muscat, Oman’s port capital, sits on the Gulf of Oman surrounded by mountains and desert. With history going back to antiquity, it mixes high-rises and upscale shopping malls with landmarks such as the 16th-century Portuguese forts, Mirani and Jalali, on looming clifftops overlooking Muscat Harbour.
Another day to visit the sights of Muscat. It's well worth stopping off at the city's modern, marble-clad Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, with its huge gleaming dome and prodigious Persian carpet. This amazing building can accommodate 20,000 people and you can see it and other fascinating buildings on one of a number of tours that can be booked on board.
Your only full day at sea on the cruise so make the most of it and get to know all that the Vision of the Seas has to offer. The ship has five new dining areas, an aerial entertainment experience and the incredible Viking Crown Lounge which is situated 150 feet above the waves and has 360 degree views. The capital of the United Arab Emirates sits off the mainland on an island in the Persian Gulf. Its focus on oil exports and commerce is reflected by the skyline’s modern towers and shopping mega-centres such as Abu Dhabi and Marina malls. Beneath white-marble domes, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque features an immense Persian carpet and crystal chandeliers.
Today the Vision of the Seas arrives back into Dubai and you have a full day and night to explore more of this exciting city. There are so many cultural highlights as well as all the glamorous modern add-ons. Take a wander around the Bastakia district and you'll discover the Dubai of old, then cruise along Dubai Creek in a traditional dhow and you'll soon realise there's more to this city than its flashy veneer.
