If you are planning a holiday in South America and want to visit the world's largest salt flats then this fascinating short tour from Bolivia's capital La Paz is just perfect. The incredible Uyuni Salt Lake is located on the Bolivian Andean Altiplano with the Andes offering a stunning backdrop. The noise of silence here makes the heart beat faster and the surreal pentagons of crystalline salt, the pure sky, the cacti and the flamingos, will certainly make you feel that there is no place like this on Earth. And to add to the experience you will be staying for two nights at a salt hotel.
You will be picked up from your hotel in La Paz and driven to the airport to catch the short flight to Uyuni. The flight tickets are not included, but on arrival at Uyuni you will be met by one of our tour representatives and taken to the salt hotel for a welcome reception. Later visit the unusual Train Cemetery and Colchani before returning to your hotel for dinner in the evening trying some of the local dishes.
Today you will be taken to visit the salt lake with time to explore and then on to Isla Pescado, which, at a distance, has the shape of a fish. Its historical name is Inka Wasi and it sits at the centre of the Uyuni salt pan. Nature has bestowed a singular type of flora on this place with the surface rocks containing fossils of marine algae. This is the largest island in the group that forms an isolated oasis-type ecosystem within the salt pan. Have your cameras ready because the landscape against the background of the salt pans extending to the horizon is amazing. Lunch is included in the trip and dinner is back at the salt hotel.
Today after breakfast you may have some time to explore on your own before being picked up at your hotel and taken to the airport for the flight back to La Paz, where you will be met and returned to your hotel. This short but memorable tour makes a great add on to any trip to South America and is a must if your are holidaying in Bolivia.
