South India Tour with Mumbai tour - 11 Days

Relax in southern India and visit Mumbai

Any tour of India is something special. The sights, the sounds and the history and the colour make this a destination that bombards the senses and leaves you with so many lastiung memories. And on this 11 day journey of south India, which starts in Bangalore and ends in Mumbai, you will also have plenty of time to relax on beautiful beaches and experience a night sleeping on a houseboat. This tour is ideal for anyone who has taken one of the traditional tours of this fascinating country before and is looking for something a little different.

Full Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Bangalore - Coorg

Your adventure begins when you arrive in Bangalore. You will be met by one of our experienced tour representatives and driven the 200 miles to Coorg, a journey that will take between six and seven hours. Lots of sights to see on the way and when you get to Coorg you will be taken straight to your hotel to relax. The rest of the evening is at leisure for you to go out and explore on your own.

Day 2: Coorg

Today after breakfast you are taken on a guided half day sightseeing tour of Coorg, visiting a spice plantation to see how coffee, cardamom, pepper and vanilla are cultivated organically. Also visit the Madikeri Fort and Abbey falls. The Madikeri Fort is a 19th century fort which has a stone rampart prison, a temple, a chapel, a small museum and assorted government offices. Return to your hotel and the rest of the day is free.

Day 3: Coorg

leisure day today for you to explore Coorg or take one of a number of tours. Coorg is known for the hospitability of the locals and it's beautiful scenery. This is one of the best destinations for nature lovers in India. Here you will see colourful scenery, wooded slopes, undulating landscape and quaint villages. There are also endless mountain ranges which attract thousands of tourists every year.

Day 4: Coorg - Neeleshwaram

Today you leave Coorg and drive for around three hours to Neeleshwaram which is reminiscent of the typical villages in Kerala. Closely resembling the huts found in the rural areas, Neeleshwar Hermitage is refreshingly different from the more formal places you stay in. The resort faces a beautiful stretch of beach where you can spend the day basking in the sun. Enjoy a bicycle ride through the traditional coastal villages and see fishing boats and nets being repaired. Overnight in Neeleshwaram.

Day 5: Neeleshwaram

A full day at leisure to relax on the beach or enjoy some of the activities on offer. The Neeleshwaram palace today functions as the folklore centre of the Department of Archaeology. The town is also famous for its numerous kavus (shrines), temple festivals and the Kavil Bhavan Yoga and Cultural Centre which offers rejuvenation therapy and naturopathy treatments like mud and herbal baths.

Day 6: Neeleshwaram

Another day to relax and enjoy all that this beach resort has to offer. Plenty of things to see and do in the area which you can explore on your own or on an organised tour. But the beach is a great draw and this is a good day to just do nothing and soak up the sun in this favourite holiday area of southern India.

Day 7: Neeleshwaram

Today you are picked up at your hotel and driven to Lotus Point, a small jetty about a 10 minute journey south from Neeleshwar Hermitage to board your houseboat. A stay on a houseboat is one of the prime attractions in Neeleswaram. You can enjoy a cruise along the palm fringed backwaters in the Malabar region, while experiencing a peaceful sojourn in these exceptionally comfortable boats which are ideal for a family or romantic holiday. Overnight on the houseboat.

Day 8: Neeleshwaram – Mangalore – Mumbai

Your final morning on the housboat enjoying this unique trip before you disembark and are picked up and driven to Mangalore airport to catch your flight to Mumbai. On arrival you are met by another of our tour representatives and driven to your hotel in the city where the evening is free for you to go out and explore sampling the nightlife and dining on local cusine in one of the many nearby restaurants.

Day 9: Mumbai

Today you are taken on a half-day tour of Mumbai, which is the commercial capital of India, and a fast paced, cosmopolitan city. Visit the Gateway of India, situated at Apollo Bunder. It was built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to India in 1911. Next, visit the Prince of Wales Museum, which houses a priceless collection of art, sculpture, china and other antiques and see much more of the city highlights as you drive around.

Day 10: Mumbai

Your final full day of the tour so make the most of your time in Mumbai. Visit the Victoria Terminus, Mumbai University and see the Rajabai Clock Tower. Make a photo stop at Dhobi Ghat, the city's open-air laundry. Take a look at Marine Drive, Chowpaty Beach, the Parsi Towers of Silence and Malabar Hill and spend some time at Mani Bhavan, the old Mumbai residence of Mahatma Gandhi. It's a pretty, two-storied structure that showcases well-preserved memorabilia, including an old charkha or spinning wheel that Gandhi used to use.

Day 11: Mumbai – Departure

Today your wonderful tour of southern India and Mumbai comes to an end. Possibly time for some more sightseeing or last minute shopping fou souvenirs before you are picked up from your hotel and driven to the airport to catch an onward flight or begin your journey back home taking with you so many memories from your tour of the sub continent.
